good. They paid their debt and served their time. Why shouldn't they be able to vote? never understood that logic. So a guy writes a bad check 20 years ago and goes to jail and still can't vote or ever own a gun for self protection?? Makes no sense. btw I am for Trump.

They paid their debt ... and if they have now been released either because they fully served their sentence or were paroled they should have the chance to again be full members of society.

In practical terms those who are career criminals didn't vote to begin with and there is no need to believe that they will have changed their mindset and suddenly become full members of society. In fact in a short time they will be back in jail ... since that is their lifestyle.

The only 2 things I might have done differently was to NOT give it to those who were convicted of the most serious class of felonies (Felony 1 or actual Murder in my state ... but that does NOT include accidental killings - ie: Manslaughter) AND that they remain clean for 3 years or so after their release from prison (if they are a career criminal they will be back in jail by then).

Violent offenders never deserve to have their rights reinstated, period, IMO.

This is what is called protecting society, NOT the offender.

Restore some personal accountability, and these crimes will begin to diminish. Currently, it's a joke. Plea bargaining, early release, Presidential pardons. Justice is not blind in this country, its bought and paid for, or depends on who you know, how much you got, what is your social position. Prison needs to be hard, brutal, not worth contemplating. A deterrent.

Having said that, this governor needs to be yanked, and right quickly at that. The Establishment is pulling out all stops to remain in control.

the original purpose for jail was for the occupants to lose their rights WHILE IN JAIL, and to regain them after leaving jail.

But the way itis now is the reason for jail is to be punished with sex abuse, so the "Gov." IS headed in the right direction, IF he FOLLOWS THROUGH, otherwise, he belongs in jail, if these voters are being given "an offer they cannot refuse".

Criminals vote for criminals. That's why we have the politicians in power now.

When you think about it, there's not such a big difference between these people and the rest of us debt slave peons.

The number of present incarcerated prisoners in Virginia is presently dominated by blacks and hispanics. I would suspect the races of freed prisoners reflect these stats as well. In other words, people who will vote democrat.
