I don't know that much about it but I am not asking for money or recognition BUT I think it's a great part of history. I think if more people knew of the struggles of their ancestors we would have a better society today. they took what they needed and left the rest for the next. I awoke to hear john 3:16 in a loud voice. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. |

I remember since Jr. High (early 70's) EVERYONE kept saying they are part Cherokee. It seemed as if it became a fad. I kept hearing this same stupid incessant claim on through the years SO MUCH I finally became like: I still hear it so much now I don't believe anyone for sure. I still believe to this day that about 99% of people that make the part Cherokee claim are full of shit. |

Yes, definitely. That would make you a quarter Cherokee. Oh, cool, I was thinking it would make me more like one-eight Cherokee, but math was never my strong suit ... So does this mean I can get on the "registry" and get some tax payer-funded reparations ? |

Now when I say Cherokee I do the mean he went on war parties with face paint. He was decended from Cherokee bloodlines. He was in no way an indian. I've always believed this, I have no reason not to. I'm not willing to spend a bunch of money researching it to find out. I am proud of who I am, whoever that may be. |

Are they perceived to have the most desirable genetic traits or something? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72506049 I have always wondered this. There are plenty of other Native American tribes, but why Cherokee? That being said, the only way I will really trust anyone on this is with a documented DNA test. |

I was thinking of one set of grandparents whereas you clearly wrote one grandfather. But anyway it seems that these days in the US, one's genetic make up doesn't have to stop you identifying as anything you'd like. |

One Turtle User ID: 72384117 United States 07/03/2016 02:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Rumor has it my great-grandmother was full blooded Cherokee, they lived up in the mountains of North Georgia. The census records don't say that is true, but from what I understand many people lied on the records because there was a lot of prejudice and hatred surrounding the natives. There is a pic of my grandfather with a couple full-blooded Cherokees at an event in Helen, Georgia from the 1960s and he looked just like them, except his hair had turned white. My grandfather was born in the 1890s, so his mother, I would assume was born in 1860s.
