I brought up one 'controversial' topic at the end of the night Christmas Eve thinking that everyone was in a fine headspace and there would be no big deal. My family shit down - my adult daughter looked like she was going to cry and then after I asked her why she can't talk about anything meaningful anymore she *did* cry. I felt shocked and sad. I felt like I'd dropped a bomb on the house by accident - it was that bad. I got angry. They got angry. Then we went to bed, got up, and pretended nothing happened. I'd say it was the booze but it's like that every time ... stay away from anything important and keep the talk to fingernails and music. crazy. makes me feel so alone. What was the controversial topic? Your comment to your daughter reminded me of my dad saying to me 'You never reached your full potential' I don't feel like a failure. In fact it's the opposite, I'm stationary in the magnitude of the possibilities that lay before me. spent my first Christmas Day alone 3 Christmases ago, and visited one of my trees instead. Since then they've been a No bullshit day with friends over a good feed It's the excitement of little kids faces that inhale you into festivities like that in the first place reminding you of when you were that child at Christmas. |

So they overgrow a giant unkempt beard down to their chest. They think the movie A Christmas Story is funny. So they organize a party just to watch it ten times and walk around saying "You'll shoot your eye out" for three months in the winter. Examples of number 2. They see ugly christmas sweaters as a meme. The next you know there are ugly christmas sweater parties, websites selling them for $50, ugly christmas sweater pub crawls, ugly christmas sweater mugshots. They have to film their pets opening presents so they can put it on Youtube. |

Little by little, there was no real reason to celebrate except for the gifts and a little break when people were tired of the long dark days.
