OP: You don't know what you're talking about. The Stonewall Inn [the correct name] was -and still is- a cramped little drag bar. The police raided it due to noise complaints from the rowdty shows they put on. The raids were actuially orchestrated by mean-assed NYPD Captain who had a bristling hair up his ass about Gay people. The confrontations did NOT just happen on one single night, but the NYPD harrassment actually went on for over a full week.

As for the "riots"? On June 28th, the patrons finally had enough; the action actually consisted of a bunch of drag queens wrenching an already-broken parking meter from its post but they couldn't break it open, so they grabbed all the pennies from the bar's cash registers and started throwing them at the cops. Soon, spare change of all kind was flying aroud.

The "third-sex" terminology does NOT date from the "1860's" but originated with Krafft-Ebing's studies in his volume, PSYCOPATHIA SEXUALIS which was published in 1886. It is considered to be the very first clinical study of human sexuality and still considered a textbook today.
