Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74581450 While you're reading up on it, start giving up sugar, including fruit. Then cut back on the bread and starchy things like rice, potatoes, corn. Next, start introducing cauliflower rice (it's available in frozen food section at Walmart) and other keto friendly foods into your meals. Finally, clean out all the stuff you won't be eating and stock up on the good stuff. Give stuff away if you can't bring yourself to toss it in the trash. Now, go on it all the way! It's easier than you think. Keep it simple at first, like baked chicken and salad (or deli roasted chicken and bagged salad from the market), steak and sauteed spinach, and bacon and eggs, and work up to more complicated dishes as you go along. The Diet Doctor website spells out what to eat and has great recipes. Really, it has all the info you will need. [link to www.dietdoctor.com (secure)] It's easier than you think! This is one diet where you will never go hungry. You'll be amazed at how quickly you lose your cravings for carbs. Good luck! Great tips! I already eat cauliflower rice. That stuff is the bomb. |

Started in March and down almost 40 lbs total just by eating Keto. My daily routine is the same. A big cup of Bullet Proof Coffee in morning (2tbsp butter, 2 tbsp coconut oil), that'll keep me feeling full until about 3-5pm. Then I have a raspberry smoothie with Chia seeds, spinach, greens plus mix, 1/2 scoop strawberry protein mix, almond milk. A later lunch will be either 2 turkey breasts rolled up with 1 can of tuna/mayo/mustard/hot sauce OR 3 turkey breasts rolled up with 6 pieces of sausage, hot sauce. Dinner I've been having 10 wings with frank's red hot sauce, sour cream + butter mixture and 6 pieces asparagus. YUM. Also did well with omelets and eggs/bacon/sausage for dinner. I stay around 1900 calories, 112g protein, 17g carbs, 161g fat. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 69047111 United States 05/29/2017 11:14 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If you're just starting a good tip that I always use is to look at the Keto calculators and find your macros and calories. Then create an excel or google drive sheet doc and enter in your meals calories, net carbs, grams of protein, grams of fat and make sure everything you eat is near your totals you need for the day. Try to stay away from eating anything else if you can, otherwise just beware of what has more fat/more carbs/more protein and eat according to what you need. I make sure every week before I order my groceries on Amazon Fresh (which is amazing for buying Keto/organic foods!) to make sure all of my macros are correct. Just do your math first, figure out all the meals and either eat the same or figure out new foods to replace it with, but make sure you calculate everything correctly :) Don't add sugar or lots of carbs after you get into Ketosis, your stomach will be screwed for days! |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 69047111 United States 05/29/2017 11:22 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Also, they say that you can do Keto up to 50g of net carbs per day. It's different for everyone but MOST keto-ers recommend 20g or less. Starting out between 20-30g is good, however, the lower the carbs go, the less hunger and cravings you will feel once your body adjusts. Higher fatty meals, especially, will keep you feel full longer. For instance, just bulletproof coffee with butter and coconut oil keeps me feeling great for almost 6-8 hours. Not too shabby for someone who was hungry every hour before Keto. For the most part, as long as I have my foods when I do notice myself getting hungry, I never suffer from hunger or cravings. |

I have bulletproof coffee every morning, which is just coffee blended with butter and coconut oil. I bought two of Danielle Walker's Against All Grain cookbooks and have been cooking from them. Last night I made her pepperoni pizza sauce on squash noodles, but I made the noodles separate, so my husband could eat them on real spaghetti. Leftovers for lunch! IDGAF |

Much more healthy than ketogenic diet. People with cancer often lose weight too but it doesn't mean that we should recommend it as a solution to weight problems. |

Be aware that prolonged high protein intake will cause damage your kidneys and prolonged high fat intake will cause insulin resistance and maybe diabetes. Both of my doctors encourage me to stay grain free. I do eat some beans and potato though. My natural doctor said that most peoples problems are caused by too much grain, that includes things like joint pain. My conventional doctor said that most people are eating way too many carbs and that going grain free is very healthy. Some school of thought is that it is actually grains causing diabetes. Have you read Grain Brain? IDGAF |

Much more healthy than ketogenic diet. People with cancer often lose weight too but it doesn't mean that we should recommend it as a solution to weight problems. Bollocks to put this mildly. Keto is not Akinson's, it is moderate protein as protein causes insulin. And other waste things with liver and organs. Your system runs on ketosis, your brain and neurology need healthy fats and good fats, and not extreme fats, as opposed to unhealthy fats, keep your brain healthy as long as you haven't combined glucose or proteins with glucose because then the combined mess makes a kind of gluey mess that isn't good for the brain and can cause memory loss. Some people do fat bombs, but some of us just use some good oils to cook with and eat the fat in the foods, such as the fat in the cheese, the fat in the cream or half and half which you can use instead of butter in your coffee. And the fat in the eggs and meat. The natural fats. Its not really about putting an extra heaping amount of fat in things, its about the whole food, the kind of natural diet. And your body needs this, it does not cause insulin resistance, it helps treat that. Fat is insulin neutral, does not raise blood sugars or increase insulin and doesn't make you have stored fat. Providing you are doing things in balance and moderation for your metabolism, body size etc. Last Edited by Sungaze_At_Dawn on 06/05/2019 02:08 PM The Devil tries to convince everyone he doesn't exist. Sungaze_At_Dawn User ID: 77427246 Canada 06/05/2019 02:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Keto is about keeping insulin and glycemic index low and the fasting period is about not snacking, which is why some people do need that oil in their coffee because it keeps you satisfied, so you're not constantly surging the insulin response but keeping that in a moderate window of time. Its about consuming vegetables, and I do fruit and berries too, works for me. As much as you can, leafy greens. But not just leafy greens, squash, zucchine, lots of vegetables. Even the occasional organic corn, because while starch, it doesn't have a huge index for insulin, more medium, so you can do that once in a while. But the greens and other healthy vegetables, tomatoes are good, carrots are good, liver foods, beets are not necessarily considered keto but they're good. Squash is good. Beans are keto too, though some say not. Check the index and what your body needs, and eat moderate amounts of some things you need. So keto is vegetables, moderate protein, and fat, but preferably whole fat in foods without adding too much of it. The Devil tries to convince everyone he doesn't exist. The state tries to convince everyone they cannot resist. Do not go quietly into the good night. Rage Rage against the dying light! |
