Sadly they are in a different branch of government, not the executive, so president Trump cannot really fired them, I think.

He cannot. They are from a separate branch of government: Congress.

The US Congress is composed of two separate "Houses"
a) The House of Representatives (Ryan)
b) The Senate (McConnell)

Members of those Houses stand for election on their own. They are elected by the people in their home states. They do not work for the PResident.

Under the US system of government, there are three Branches of the federal government.

1) The Legislative Branch composed of the US House and Senate

2) The Executive Branch Composed of the President, Vice President and all the various agencies IRS/ATF/FBI/DOJ and all military services.

3) The Supreme Court (and the inferior courts.)

Each of the three branches has its own, separate function:

The Legislative Branch MAKES the laws.
The Executive Branch ENFORCES the laws.
The Court INTERPRETS the laws.

The three branches are separate but equal. They have different powers but Trump cannot "fire" members of the other branches.

1)the "executive branch" (the president, his cabinet, all the regulatory and administrative agencies that thegovt. operates ;
2) the "legislative branch": Our congress and senate who make laws.
3) and finally the "Judicial branch": our supreme court who debate the application and validity(constitutionality) of those laws.

The president has power over the executive branch; he cannot make law or hire and fire elected officials who do. Though he does recommend Judges to be appointed by consent of the senate.
However: I do very much agree the Republicans in the legislative branch are failing us all badly.
