Online Accounts being hacked
So, for the past two weeks I have been battling hacked accounts. My email, amazon, hubby's xbox live, airbnb, and facebook have all been hacked. They change passwords, add random "users" (no idea who they are). It's been a real pisser. I ended up changing all passwords to something long and obnixious. But GLP has not been hacked. Anyone else having this issue?

GLP won't be hacked because it's a US military website.

Unless there's an intentional inside job, this place is safe.

No, but the solution is not something palatable to most CT forum users.

Microsoft and Google require TFA [Triple Factor Authentication] to allow an unknown device to access my accounts.

I can open an MS web page, log in, then I am prompted to approve "Authentication request XYZ123" <--[some random sequence] on my phone.

My phone must be near me, I must enter my Android password, I must submit my fingerprint, then I must approve the authentication request which requires a different password to access. Once I do all of that the web page opens instantly.

Very secure, but not very convenient.

don't presume to tell us that have defended you that you don't support every shot we fired to eliminate that enemy.

My accounts have required TFA since they were created.

What part is missing from your config that they are able to access your accounts without having physical possession of your phone? Access to my accounts requires physical possession of my phone.

You have left something open.

FWIW I have no idea what security an 'X-Box' offers, so I am in an area where I am guessing that may be the leak.

I wish I knew for sure what area was vulnerable. I do think the Xbox/Microsoft was the leak. We ended up tying huby's controller in as a third authentication. I guess they log controller info. He has had an Xbox account for more than 10 years and this is the first time we have had issues. But it spread like wildfire to other accounts. Xbox did help us trace the offending party to Hungary. Hoping this is the end.

Our router has been secured for a long time. We even went with the random letter/numbers. I am going to change that as well. The weird part is we have two part verification. Either email or text codes to change login/passwords.

I have been getting 4-6 random calls daily from San Francisco and Astoria Oregon for the last week. I don't answer calls that I don't recognize and I block them. But, within an hour or two a slight variation of the number is calling back. Blocked those as well.

I've phone searched the numbers and it appears to be scam IRS callers with false claims trying to get personal info....from what google says.

I'm betting the OP is part of the 50million Facebook hack that just happened and his info is considered hot and already sold. That or he's been posting to groups on the internet and chose the wrong group above his skillset and is being doxxed and ferreted.

And he keeps going back.

I can assure you MS security is sound.

My MS account gives me access to this below. I can download software or generate passwords on Microsoft's own servers for any product in their inventory. My Google access allows me to edit Google Maps. Both have a vested interest in securing my access.

I think you just answered your own question--the "X-Box" game system. MS has no vested interest in that being secure and a hacker in Hungary [to me] points at the game system.

I do not answer unknown phone numbers, pretty much if you are not in my cell address book I'm not answering. It could be Facebook, but the main account with the most compromises is Xbox Live. I changed any accounts that were set to log in with Facebook. I have also changed all passwords on all of my accounts so something long, random, and obnoxious.

You're right there is a campaign going on...

Someone got into my instagram account which I NEVER use thankfully and just signed up for once for a contest entry.

But anyways they went and tried to remove my phone number and change security question etc haha

But Instragram's system basically knows what hacker behavior looks like and basically just sent me an email saying to click this link to get in the account and it didn't make me even prove anything. LOL

It was pretty funny actually all the effort they put in to getting into it and trying to clear out 2nd auth info only to have Instagram just basically flip them a bird and send me a simple link to just go back in and change the PW with no issues.
