You stop drinking and a good trick is finding something else to do with your time besides drinking.

Are you asking for `another` or are you asking for yourself?.... The very first thing to do along this difficult path...IS to admit to yourself you ARE Alcohol dependant.

We dont use the term Alcoholic as this continues to append a label that is somewhat derogatory.

Go to AA. Worked for me. Just don’t stop going to the meetings. It’s free and it works!

If you cant or dont want to stop drinking entirely just drink in moderation.

Start smoking pot, worked for me..

On a side note... IF you are very heavily dependant on Alcohol over a sustained length of time... It is dangerous and can be fatal if you try to go `cold turkey`.

Withdrawing from alcohol dependency requires planning.

One drink at a time.

Get on your knees in prayer.

Ask God to help you.

Repent for your sin.

Accept His Son Jesus Christ in to your heart and life and ask Jesus to set you free from the chains of alcoholism that are binding you.

Read the Bible every day, pray every day.

Feed your spirit The Word of God. Ask by faith to be filled with The Holy Spirit.

Walk in the freedom Jesus died to give you.

Go to a doctor and ask for naltrexone. It breaks the addiction,because it blocks the receptors in the brain that fuel the addiction.

It works.

Replace your drinking with something you enjoy doing more.

Why would god... im asuming jesus turn water into wine.....

Funny thing - my friends BRother in law was in AA for over 20 years - leader in church and home - successful at work - paid off house -saved for retirement - HAD IT ALL

Decided to divorce after almost 30 years marriage- went out with someone at work that would "let" him drink again.

A few years later is dying of liver failure

Horrible disease - painful and bloody vomit

Will probably be dead by age 60

Oh - New wife gets to push him around the hospital in his wheelchair - he had to retire early due to health - he is poor and pathetic

get a support group, a sponsor and talk it out with them, they get it.

AA meets once a week in person usually, there are online meetings at Stepchat dot com.

Takes about a year and then it gets easier.

Find the triggers that are enabling you. Detach.

Maybe accept in advance the fact that you will experience severe emotional and physical pain during the withdrawal and commit yourself to experiencing it. Kind of like if you were having chemotherapy.

I don't have any serious substance addictions so I cant comment on how severe your suffering will be.

I use this method when I fast so that Im not shocked by the sugar withdrawal that causes hanger and anxiety.

I simply say to myself " I feel like total shit but this is the normal and expected withdrawal reaction and in time it will start to fade".

Just gotta wait it out. Also commit to the reality that you don't know how long it will take to start to feel better but the you will keep going no matter how much it hurts because it will eventually start to get better.

Coping is a muscle, you will never develop it if you don't use it.But if you start working it out, its gonna hurt at first but then it will be easier and less painful when you have to lift heavy shit.

My buddy would drink a fifth almost everyday over 10 years. One night called me saying he thought had food stuck in his throat.
I don't think he has seen a Doc in 30 years but I took him to the ER. I have no idea what the Doc said to him but its been five years now and he has not had a drop from that night!

No AA no nothing but I think the Doc scared the crap out of him.
It WILL kill ones liver, With me, between the age 40-50 my once drinking buddies started dropping off, most due to liver, diabetes, car accident etc.

When one stops I do suggest being under Doc care as if a heavy drinker, stoping can kill you.

I don't have the answer of how but I do believe with the true Alcoholic its not if but when... It will kill a person or that person will do something that will put them in jail.

Unlike my old drinking buddies I loved drinking when younger but it never got the hold on me like some. Shame what it can do to people.

Why would you want to quit?

You'd open yourself up to a long drawn out period of misery and death will come anyway.

You become an alcoholic by drinking while alone over and over again. It becomes a habit like eating at a certain time every day.

The only way I've able to stop is asking God for help.

Anytime I would grab a glass or go searching in the beer drawer I would stop and say "God help me". The urge would pass and I would put it down.

If you're not a member of a faith it sounds dumb but It actually works. My faith was minimal and I just decided to try it.

Yes, God can and will help, all a person has to do is ask Him.

There is hope in Jesus Christ.

God is able to deliver anyone who goes to Him completely by cleansing, sanctifying, and justifying you (I Corinthians 6:9-11).

Though alcohol abuse is a failing of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-21), the Holy Spirit can, and will, produce the self-control needed to overcome it (Galatians 5:22-23) in Christ, to The Glory of God.

Go to AA. It worked for me. Get a sponsor and work the steps. And don't take the first drink. Nearly any drinker can stop with AA and not taking the first drink! But few succeed doing it alone. That's the beauty of AA...you don't need to do it alone.

You don't quit being an alcoholic.

You CAN become an alcoholic who doesn't drink.

Read the story above about the guy who was sober for years and took up drinking again.

Back in my youth I saw the best commercial about alcoholism ever. Just a person sitting on couch looking depressed. The punchline was, "If you think you have a problem with alcohol, you probably do."

Non-alcoholics don't get terribly concerned about it. They just wake up and say enough is enough, and do something about it. For true alcoholics, there's no such thing as enough.

If you're not an alcoholic, but someone who drinks way too much too often, you can taper down and stop for a while and maybe go back to it in a reasonable manner. It happens.

There are a plethora of cannabis smoking devices to fiddle with. Just cleaning a bong can take hours.

Alcoholism is a CHEMICAL REACTION that has nothing at all to do with Will Power or character.

Add (Insert chemical name here) and reaction (x) takes place.

Once one finds out or realizes they are alcoholic - and the simplest way to realize is if the use of alcohol interferes with your regular life - the ONLY treatment/cure is to stop using it altogether.

Not even ONE drink or beer. Ever.

Now, for most folks, that's too long a time to think about. So the easiest thing is to not drink "just for today." Or "Just for this hour." Or sometimes "just for this minute."

A truly successful program is ALcoholics Anonymous.
