Trump's trade war: Stakes are high at G20 summit
The stakes are high at this week's G20 summit, where President Trump is due to meet China's President Xi Jinping.
Hopes that the meeting could open the way for a deal over trade between the two countries have been undermined by recent threats by the US president.
Only days before the summit in Argentina, President Trump said current tariff levels on $200bn (£157bn) of Chinese imports would rise as planned.
He also threatened tariffs on $267bn of other Chinese exports to the US.
Then, just before taking off for Argentina, President Trump told reporters at the White House that while China was interested in striking a deal, "I don't know if I want to do it" and "I like the deal we have now".
The stage could now be set for a possible escalation of the trade war between the two nations.

ironic that this is BBC, business division?

what kind of Business division does a communist outfit like BBC run you ask?

well they conveniently forget that China enjoys a massive trade imbalance with the USA every time they write this story.

the business world is now NWO communist... these are not real business people, they are posers, SJWs, and Libtards.

Re: Trump's trade war: Stakes are high at G20 summit
The biggest misconception about the trade deficit is that it means that money is flowing out of the country.
The US Current Account - balance of payments of goods and services.
US Financial Account - balance of payments of financial assets are equivalent.

Current account + financial account = CA + FA = 0.

If the US has a current account deficit of $ 470 billion, the financial account surplus will be $ 470 billion.

The level of US foreign investment directly or through the purchase of debt securities equals the trade deficit.
The financial account surplus is equal in size to the current account deficit.
Therefore, the trade deficit does not mean that the money is coming out of the economy. This means that foreigners are investing in the US and buying their securities.
You can not be the issuer of the global fiduciary currency and have a trade surplus, you have to choose one thing or another. If dollars are missing from the system because the US wants to collect the currency, the imbalance will cause a valuation of the Dollar that makes everything that is produced in the US expensive and the system is again balanced by the law of supply and demand if the lack of dollars is systemic trade world will look for other forms of payment and abandon the Dollar because it is expensive and because it is missing.
The destruction of the dollar as the world's currency is being Trump's biggest contribution to the end of US financial hegemony.

Why would it be called "Trump's Trade War" when it was the European Union and China ripping America off for hundreds of billions of dollars each year with unfair trade?
