Thomas had the 'D' added to him to make him grow to be effective. Jesus had the 'D' added to him as 'juDas' .....effecting change to the whole world. D represents the 'resistance' that challenges all men.....that which causes most men to stop movement ...to stagnate.....to become 'a dam'..... embracing the challenge/resistance fulfills LIFE. |

Jesus has a sister named Jamie, James the Just. Jesus has a brother who he hates named Adam. This is why in the gospel of thomas Jesus says (12) The disciples said to Jesus: We know that you will depart from us; who is it who will be great over us? Jesus said to them: Wherever you have come, you will go to James the Just, for whose sake heaven and earth came into being. 85. Jesus said, "Adam came from great power and great wealth, but he was not worthy of you. For had he been worthy, [he would] not [have tasted] death." The great power and wealth refers to their parents. The one who makes friends with the snake shall be guarded from the worms. |

The double usage most likely got him the surname Thomas in Aramaic, which is translated to Didymus in Greek. John is clear that he was called this name just as Simon had been called Kephas (Peter) by Jesus. Unless I shall see in his hands the mark of the nails, and put my finger into the mark of the nails, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe. - John 20:25 Didymus (Thomas) is a name that forever marks Thomas as being a witness to both seeing and touching the wounds of the Lord Jesus. And without doubt it was Jesus who gave him this name. John states three times in his Gospel that Thomas was called Didymus. This means Jesus gave him this name. John 11:16 Then Thomas (called Didymus) But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus - John 20:24 Thomas (called Didymus) - John 21:2 By the way, the word Thomas does not mean a twin / the twin (as in singular) in Aramaic, it means twins (plural). So, the name cannot mean that Thomas is someone's twin, but rather that Thomas was called Twins for some other reason. Anonymous Coward User ID: 77361178 United States 02/10/2019 09:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Jesus always gave his disciples a name according to something they said. He gave James and John the name Boanerges (Sons of Thunder) after they asked Jesus if they should strike down the people for disbelieving. He gave Simon the name Kephas after he said, You are Messiah, the Son of the Living God when they were near to the Rock Grove of Pan in Panea in Caesarea Philippi (Matthew 16). And no doubt Jesus gives Thomas this very name after his double demand to see and touch the stigmata of Christ. Quoting: anastasis888 I like what he told the sons of thunder when they asked to destroy the Heathen “You have no idea what Spirit you are from” |

Quoting: anastasis888 I like what he told the sons of thunder when they asked to destroy the Heathen “You have no idea what Spirit you are from” Exactly. Jesus' nicknames that he gave to the disciples were not always flattering. I'm not sure Thomas was all that great of a compliment. In this name, Thomas has to wear the stigmata of Christ the rest of his life.
