Of course the US will have it's assets in place in case Iran or it's proxies decide to do something stupid, but it won't be the US who starts the shooting.

What so much of the World refuses to acknowledge is that while we may not be a war with Islam, Islam is at war with us.

More seriously, Iran has been talked up as "the next war!" for as long as I've been coming to GLP (~2004) and it never materialises. Mostly because the military commanders (and likely the President, regardless of what they say publicly) know it wouldn't be like Iraq or Afghanistan. The US wouldn't lose, obviously, but it's most likely the public would get casualty fatigue before they could "win".

Here's the deal: Nasrallah's life goal is to destroy Israel. His goal isn't to have a quiet life in Lebanon, and give lectures on Islamic life from a bunker. He's feeling....unfulfilled right now with time running out. He wants war with Israel to validate his "career" and life purpose.

So he goes now and makes this pathetic statement, where he endorses keeping land captured in a war by saying that in the next war with Israel, Lebanon is going to annex captured land taken from Israel. He also made the rookie mistake of promising to slaughter US forces, which he can't do, and sounds like the typical Islamic pre-war bluster which never works and always sounds absurd, like a Gosling threatening to go to war with wolves and keep part of the den.

Israel has no desire to annex any part of Lebanon, but Nasrallah endorsing and normalizing the act of capturing and annexing land taken in war was pretty sloppy and stupid on his part. His chess has become checkers. And..NO there won't be a UN statement condemning Nasrallah's statement which goes against the post world war II rule the UN made that says a country can't keep land they took in a war. Well Nasrallah disagrees. No UN statement is expected.

Israel will get rid of him if they have to. It won't take an invasion of Lebanon.
