If the storm survives, it could track toward the Bahamas and the US, but this is still several days away. Have a plan just in case. |

That matches max wave during the Perfect Storm in 1991!!!p472 Two bad scenarios I see with Dorian for the United States that we hope do not pan out: 1) If after leaving the PR/Hispaniola area Dorian propagates through the Bahamas, the FL straits, and then enters the warm bath waters of the Gulf of Mexico as a strengthening hurricane as the strong High to the north keeps it westerly 2) If after leaving the PR/Hispaniola area 98L/Erin leaves just enough of a weakness in the ridge to cause Dorian to propagate more northwesterly towards the warm waters and Gulf Stream off the southeast coast and makes a landfall in the Carolinas. This would obviously allow more time over warm waters. If there would be any best case scenario, it would be for Dorian to plow into South Florida as a minimal hurricane (to run out of time over water) and go up the spine of Florida as a weakening system to minimize potential damages. |
