I live across the street from a beach in HI -not rich, military getting ready to retire- and what I notice as I clean the park and beach each day is the shear ABSENCE of straws. Sure there is little bits and much larger bit of plastic washed up on shore and iin eddies near the boat rams and docks, but I am certain that that plastic is well over 80% foreign from the fishing industry located in China, Vietnam, Thailand, and the PI. On the other side, I constantly find the straw wrappers from juice boxes. So, my anecdotal evidence, personal experience, and having lived in and travelled throughout Asia tells me that the whole straw thing is BS. Oh, BTW, you know the whole straw statistic used by useful idiots in CA and other places came from a 12 year old. Seriously, 500 million straws a day in the US? Every man, woman, and child would need to uses more than one a day, EVERY Fucking day. |
