The dogs just want love and attention. Too many humans have dark souls. I chalk it up to that.

True, I like dogs better than people. Dogs are innocent.

That said, if a person especially a kid and a dog were both in a grave situation, I'd save the human first because that would be whats right but watching videos of mistreated dogs is worse than videos of mistreated humans.

Canines can sometimes fall into a pack mentality, depending on the situation. But often, most breeds alone, as individual dogs, have distinct personalities. Some can be sweathearts, others arsehole pricks.

It is a power issue. Since you have power over them, you view them in a positive light. Other people, you do not have power over, so you view them in a negative light.
