We literally as a church just finished the New Testament.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 64698495

did it say anything in the new testament about whether you should believe the book of morman?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1865756

It said in the New Testament that you could fill the world with the things that Jesus said. The great thing about the Book of Mormon is that you can pray and ask God if it is true. Spoiler alert: it is.

And they should have read this as well if they studied the NT.

2 Corinthians 9:6-7

The Cheerful Giver
6 The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Do not give under compulsion. Stop giving them tax returns. Stop forced tithing and shaming.

Just get away from that organization.

Why do you believe that God would select a lifelong con man as the Real Prophet of the Real Truth?

Which do you consider more likely:

- that God selected a lifelong con man to be the real Prophet of the real Church and the real Truth

- or that a lifelong con man hit his jackpot by proclaiming himself the real Prophet of the real Church and the real Truth?

The Book of Mormon testifies of Christ. It’s close to my heart and many other people feel the same way that is why you see such a desire to make the church rich both financially and rich in time and talents.

I love that book almost as much as the Bible. Both are awesome but that book brings out a spirituality in me that I need.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 64698495

But the Book of Mormon is not based on truth. It contradicts the Bible. Just tithing for Christians contradicts it. Also humans being gods of other planets is not biblical.

Nobody is forced. And if anyone is asking for tax returns then they are wrong. I've seen the handbook for bishops and that is NOT in there.

Awesome!

I am glad. I can not think of another organization that does as much good in the world.

The members must be thankful the Church is wise in their stewardship of their tithing funds, as they prepare for the Savior's return.

What is the problem exactly?

All they really point to is the investment in the property next to the Salt Lake Temple which has been wildly successful. The old mall they purchased and tore down was an earthquake death trap. Had they not made that move everyone would be complaining that they don't take care of the City.

People can not see past their emotional reaction against a church that truly puts their money where their mouth is.

From Newsweek? Really? Anything from the mockingbird media condemning something means the opposite is true.

Btw... if God was to have a physical church upon the earth do you think it would be financially illiterate and broke? How can you help people when you lack the vehicle to transport items and support financially burdened families (me being one from time to time)?

The Mormon church will be the only organization left to be a thorn in the U.Ns side as they introduce their new world order. And why is that you ask? Because it is the ancient church setup by Christ but fell away due to the wickedness Of man. God took the Holy Ghost from the earth and that's WHY we had the dark ages. Then the righteousness of the reformers planted a seed of renewed growth allowing Christianity to be eventually spread to land where freedom Of religion was possible and apostles/prophets would not be killed.

America was setup and set aside by God as a place safe for his church to Be upon the earth again thrive. That's why in the new testament they spoke of a fallen away and a restoring.

When the atmosphere was right then could God call a prophet to lead his children back to him through the atonement of Jesus Christ our savior.

I’m not even Mormon and I know that it’s Lehi and Laban. You damned to hell Mormons can’t fool me. You know Mormons don’t even like to have a cross in their home. I finally had to stand up for myself and say I am a Christian and I love the cross and I will hang it on the wall As a reminder of what my Lord did for me. I have never seen one cross in any of my huge Mormon families homes. And I have also done everything I possibly can to pull every member of my in-laws away from that disgusting religion.
 Quoting: Fossy

If Jesus had been killed by firing squad would you wear a machine gun around your neck? Latter-day Saints celebrate the Risen Lord, not the dead one. The cross is a vestige of your version of Christianity’s Catholic origins.

 Quoting: Eggcellently Deplorable

Baptism should be a choice. You don’t baptize people without their consent. Jesus said he will raise the righteous and the unrighteous during his Diaper wearing dumb ass sniveling bitch reign. No need to baptize the dead when they will be raised and can decide for themselves.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76984449

The Bible forbids this practice anyways.

Back to my original points - I have never met a Mormon who actually ever read a Bible. Years of Mormon church and I never encountered a single person who actually knew anything about the Bible.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78161187

That is sad and tragic. They should be studying the Bible. Reading it everyday. Satan is the one who doesn’t want us reading the Bible. Way to go Mormon church.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76984449

AC1187, you claim that they don't read the Bible. Would it interest you to know that they just spent the entire year of 2019 studying the New Testament? And BTW, JESUS WAS BAPTIZED by his cousin John at the very beginning of his ministry and told us to do the same thing as a symbol of dying to the Old Life and being born into the new life.

No. Not true.

The point is that the church didn't declare these as overhead/operation costs - they listed the funds as CHARITY which gives them 100% tax exempt status to do as they wish with the funds.

Then they invest the funds making massive returns.

So they committed fraud against the government and the American people to STEAL money for PROFIT.

Jesus also prevailed over the gates of hell but had to die first. Just as Jesus died and was resurrected, His Church fell into Apostasy and was Restored.

I was at the Vatican last month and paid 80 Euro for the tour and visit to Peter’s tomb. Do you know how many times Jesus was mentioned during three hours by our devout Catholic tour guide? Re: MORMON CHURCH STOCKPILED $100 BILLION INTENDED FOR CHARITIES AND MISLED LDS MEMBERS, WHISTLEBLOWER SAYS
It’s a misleading headline. The funds are for church operations or charity. The church needs 7 BILLION per year to simply operate. 1 billion per year is placed in savings or invested to have money for charity and operations. Just so happened the investment fund grew to 100 billion. So as the church grows it has fall back and growth money. No one said anything about misused for person gain or abuse of the money. The whistleblower is looking for a windfall payout for reporting the money’s existence in the investment fund. He’s hoping to cash in because not enough went out fast enough for charity. Tithing makes the church exist not just all go to charity. Though millions upon millions of dollars and man hours go to charity regularly. As always, it’s a misleading story and headline.

The widow described in the New Testament cast her two mites into the treasury. She gave out of her want, not out of great abundance. The widow did not see this as a transaction. She was wise and wasn’t interested in just having someone take her mites and hand them over to someone else in need. The widow understood that combining her offering with those of others would create a great compounding effect that would bless more people over a longer period of time.

Had the widow only wanted a transaction, she could have given her mites to a needy person on her own. It would have been a one-time transaction.

...
Building a reserve is wise and the appropriate way to honor the widow’s mite.

..
what would happen in the event of a significant economic downturn, let alone a complete collapse. Where will the poor, the needy and the most vulnerable look when the government becomes unwilling or unable to assist?

The church members know that the vast majority of tithing goes to church operations, just like any church. A portion goes to charity and the churches existence produces charity in every ward across the world. They also organize for disasters like no one else. The headline is misleading. The witnesses symbolically being the Old testament and New Testament. Wouldn't a loving father provide additional witnesses to produce confidence, hope and the beginning of faith in his children. And this witness would be from a land far away from the first two witnesses and this fulfilling Jesus's comment that there were other sheep not of this fold (middle east) and they would HEAR his voice.

Would a chair be more stable with two legs or three plus?...

Some warnings from the Bible. Don't turn to a different gospel, even if an angel says so:

6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!

(Galatians 1:6-8)

Don't get tricked by people pushing their fake teachings, which are not from Christ:

8 See to it, then, that no one enslaves you by means of the worthless deceit of human wisdom, which comes from the teachings handed down by human beings and from the ruling spirits of the universe, and not from Christ.
(Colossians 2:8)

Don't get tricked by people who claim to have special visions:

Do not allow yourselves to be condemned by anyone who claims to be superior because of special visions and who insists on false humility and the worship of angels. For no reason at all, such people are all puffed up by their human way of thinking 19 and have stopped holding on to Christ, who is the head of the body. Under Christ's control the whole body is nourished and held together by its joints and ligaments, and it grows as God wants it to grow.
(Colossians 2:18-19)

Carefully consider what the Bible says. Compare that with what these people said:

Smith said that on the night of September 21, 1823, Moroni appeared to him and told him about the golden plates that were buried in a stone box a few miles from Smith's home. Smith said that the same angel visited him various times over the course of the next six years; Smith also said that the angel visited him to retrieve the golden plates after Smith had finished translating a portion of the writing on the plates[20] into the Book of Mormon.[2]

In addition to Smith, several other early Mormons said they had visions where they saw the angel Moroni. Three Witnesses said they saw the angel in 1829: Oliver Cowdery, David Whitmer, and Martin Harris. Other early Mormons who said they saw Moroni include Emma Hale Smith, Hyrum Smith, Luke S. Johnson, Zera Pulsipher, W. W. Phelps, John P. Greene and his wife Rhoda, John Taylor, Oliver Granger, Heber C. Kimball, Lucy Harris, and Harrison Burgess. Mary Whitmer may also have seen Moroni, although she referred to the angel she saw as "Brother Nephi".

One thing is true. Forced tithing of Christians is not biblical.

No one is forced to pay. They don’t even pass a donation bowl around.

As a member at one point I had to do an audit of all members. They do pay tithe, and it is recorded. I had to ask for tax returns for all members who we suspected of lying.

Anyone who was caught lying lost their temple recommend and could not partake in communion.

Do you know nothing of Mormonism?

I think many are ignorant of their own religion. I knew that and I’m not Mormon.

They are such extortioners. Poor people. Literally and figuratively.

Liar!!!!! If you don’t pay your tithes you will get a visit from your bishop and if you continue not to pay your tithes they will yank your temple recommend right out from under your ass and everything that you have worked for up until then will be zilch and until you start paying tithes for that temple recommend again. You don’t get that temple recommend you don’t get anything that Mormonism offers. And you know that is true so don’t try to fool any of the rest of us who absolutely know that it’s true.My brother-in-law was a bishop at one point and I listen to many conversations he had with other elders about how they had to get people to pay their tithes so they don’t lose their temple recommend and it’s a big freaking deal. It’s the biggest freaking deal.

It’s a freaking money making scam masquerading as a religion. All they do is focus on money. The love of money is the root of all evil.

As a church member and having paid tithing my whole life, it actually made me proud to see that the church is doing so well. I know the work they do on an individual level, helping people to thrive and pick folks up when they need it is incredible. I know of a young man from Africa that had his parents killed by local gangs, get sent to the US for school. The man served a mission and helps others now. The church changed his life and hundreds more that I’m personally connected to. I know millions out there feel the same. It’s rolling forward boldly and nobly, just as God prophesied it would.
