I have to agree, Vicious Dollop, based on my own personal experience.

My father has always owned guns. He was a United States Marine and grew up as a Dairy Farmer. They had 364 acres of land and most of that was woods. I don't think my father has ever fired more than 5 shots in my entire life and that was to scare off animals. One was to put a poor dog out of its misery after they dumped it out of the back of a speeding truck near my parent's house in Texas. The dog is buried on our property. He cried. That was hard :(

I always felt safe. Both my mom and dad shoot, my brother carries, my sister shoots and hunts. I'm the odd one out. Never handled a weapon in my life, but now that I'm living in Ireland where practically no one has the right to bear arms, I feel less safe. Just knowing the guns are there and there is someone who knows how to use them and will use them should there be danger makes all the difference.

Here in Ireland, you can't own a handgun. All the criminals have them, but God forbid a law-abiding citizen have access to them. Murder rates in Dublin would plummet if citizens were armed.

Just my two cents.

Here's an interesting side bar. After the Japanese decimated our fleet in Pearl Harbor Dec 7, 1941, they could have sent their troop ships and carriers directly to California to finish what they started. The prediction from our Chief of Staff was we would not be able to stop a massive invasion until they reached the Mississippi River . Remember, we had a 2 million man army and war ships in other localities, so why did they not invade?
After the war, the remaining Japanese generals and admirals were asked that question. Their answer....they know that almost every home had guns and the Americans knew how to use them

Even violent felons have the right to self defense and guns. The only people who shouldnt have guns are those currently in prison. Using that term makes you a libtard.

That breaks down to only 1.5015015015015014% of the population are lawless criminals, and the remaining 98.5% are LAW ABIDING Citizens.

Because there are approximately 1.5% of criminals who take innocent lives, the Government wants to take our RIGHT to Have and Bear Arms that is given to us via the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution.

I am in the south. Everyone I know owns a gun. Same thing said my all is that they don’t want to use it and will not pull it out unless they have to use it

Im not a Trump fan but you are correct..those that legally own guns are decent people...trump had no right banning bump stocks, it was a direct violation of the u.s.constitution.

I'm,in the south too,..bama ..moved here 4 years ago ...despite the walmart open carry ban people still do it down here and nobody says a word. Bama will not ever give their guns up, it's their passion ...that and football.,

The children's rhyme comes to mind. Everyone has their role to play. The butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker, the soldier , the healer and all else in between.

The strong have always taken their duty to defend the weak as an honor. As I said, we all have our part to play.

Here in the south there is virtually no crime in my rural area because everybody has a gun...go 45 minutes southwest to Birmingham and it's a cesspool of crime and filth....im a Yankee gal but that's one reason I came here, safety. If someone out here sees a store about to be robbed,,you can count on that gun owner to put a stop to it immediately..and that's the way it should be!

It's pretty nice! Outside of the cities, that is. Not a city person at all.

We live way out in the sticks of County Roscommon. Closest grocery shopping is about a 20-minute drive. It rains here - a lot. I've discovered a new form of ice! Moss! Grows in the driveway on the asphalt and it is slippery as all get out when it's wet. Couldn't figure out why everyone owned a power washer in a country where it rains 5 times a week. Now we know! To blast the moss off the asphalt and the sides of your house!

The bread actually molds here. I never had moldy bread in Texas. It got really dry, LOL, but not moldy. I've learned the power of bleach when cleaning house here. I miss the long days of full sun in Texas and the warmth. Wet and cold makes me ache.

But as far as scenery? Wicklow Mountains was the prettiest place I've ever seen. The people are friendly so long as you are. Sturdy folks. They are out working even when it's raining. Kind of have to since it rains just about every day here at some point.
