I am an oil painter and I initially started making 3d scenes to paint from, as reference.

Once I got a headset and could actually "stand and look around" at my scenes I was kind of blown away by the possibilities.

I'm not sure I want to work for a company in a stuffy office building with a bunch of liberal idiots all day so I am going to keep my career focus on selling paintings and see where the VR thing takes me.

Ok, great! I just was wondering because of the VR is normally associated to gaming or simulation.

I think is great that as an artist you are also exploring it as a way to make your art more vivid!!!

What HMD do you have? What programs do you use?

No problem! I actually have done quite a bit of level-design/game-dev types of work in my learning... it's basically the same thing.

I was thinking about making some V.R. experiences to sell on one of the marketplaces... it's just going to take a chunk of time. If I do anything it will most likely be a VR fps-type thing.

I have an Oculus Rift-S and use Houdini as my general 3d app, Gaea and World Creator for terrain work, Substance Designer/Painter and Quixel Mixer for materials and a TON of photoscanned assets... some I scanned and processed myself and most are Quixel Megascans.

I remember that Book of the Dead demo, I don't think they ever finished it... right?

I mainly use UE4 for everything now because Epic Games acquired Quixel so megascans are FREE if you sign up for their UE4 account.

When I get some new paintings to show I'll share them so stay tuned, we can work something out!

Oh geez, you can do some CRAZY stuff like that in this software.

You just need a projector.

They are using that setup to do backgrounds for movies right now... looks nuts.

A lot of musicians are doing 360 degree stages/sets for their shows like this.
