I've raised FOUR amazing kids who are all self-sufficient and goal-oriented. They all have families of their own, and I'm proud of every one of them. Now I need to work on the grand-babies. LOL

The ONE thing I "pounded" into their minds from the time they were old enough to speak is this:

"Everything that happens to you in life, is a direct result of the CHOICES YOU HAVE MADE !! Choose well, because you will live with the consequences of your choices - good & bad" !!

....and I've never once heard any of them blame their shortcomings or mistakes on anyone else.

The other thing that I stress was, "Always have a plan...and maybe plan A & plan B (because shit happens) - without a plan, things seldom work out."

Always be honest, even if the truth hurts.

Honesty on what and how the child feels abt something, issues in general so the caregiver / parent could assess more the mental, emotional condition of how things affect a child. It is very important that honest openness is dealt with before or after any event.

Children are already direct or straightforward due to their innocence and motivating honesty is a sure help to either correct or direct their information, feelings or fear.

John 14:6 “ I am the way and the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father but through me.”

Basically...knowing the above, love God and others.

More specifically...love God as your Savior and Father, as if your very life depends on it (it really does), and because He has done so much for you through His great mercy, give that love away to others.

Even more specifically...anything you honor over Him is idolatry aka relying on things for your significance that are temporal (do not last longer than this world)...gathering things to yourself to make you feel more secure, important, liked, etc. can never ever hold you up like God can.

Remember that you are not perfect and will mess up. The worst thing you can do is simply resolve to do better. That will work for a few days or weeks then crumble into failure. The minute you realize you messed up, go straight to Him and confess and ask Him to lead you in the way you should go. You did not invent how you are supposed to be...God did that so His Words and thoughts are designed by Him to guide you.

I've always told mine that they have to 'be their own man'

and not follow anyone. Listen to sound advise and never let

any man or woman control you. Make your own decisions and

stand by your convictions. And if you make bad decisions,

you have to accept the consequences and don't think I'm

going to bail you out every time something goes bad.

You have to learn to take the good with the bad.

You have to learn from your own mistakes AND mine too.

Not teach but show how to take responsibility for your behavior by apologizing when you fuck up and then eliminate that bad behavior.

Question everything.

Don't spend your time, invest it.
Don't spend your attention, invest it.

Parents, live your lives with integrity, kindness, generosity and respectability. Your children will follow your example, needing very little correction.

You are their guide, be a good one.

Reading to your children is the best thing you can do.

That you don't have to be corrupted by this world, but if you are you can turn around.
