It does not have the same purpose as what we know as martial arts. Quoting: Adieuvat Yes, I did it for a while to help my back problems. Very effective and more difficult than it would appear. I could even experience the Dan Tien energy. As I unblocked energy pathways, my feet and hands felt like they were on fire. The heat was incredible. It is said that this was China's "Gift to the West". I can't resist a joke though, so had to use the quote from that Van Damme movie. "Very impressive, but Brick not hit back". The Dan Tien is an acupuncture point IIRC, just below the navel? A Dieu vat |

I am not an expert, but the video tape guy I used to guide my workouts described the Dan Tien as the center of the Chi (right about at the navel). The Tai Chi forms remove blockages in the Chi. All of that energy finally made it through to my extremities. A lot of the forms are caressing the ball of energy that can be extended like a beach ball from the Dan Tien and moving it around. The wrists softly flexed and the arms curved to contain the energy ball. I only did it for a couple months to fix up my back. someone that practiced for years can explain it better. I also practiced TM for a while when younger. There are things about our beings that are not well understood, at least by the West. Last Edited by JustmeTX on 08/24/2021 06:42 PM Justme |

The Dan Tien is known to Japanese martial arts experts as well (but of course they call it differently, I think it's what they call the "hara"). It is located somewhat below the navel though, not exactly on it. I am aware of the active use of imgination while practising Chi Gong and Tai Chi but didn't know about that particular imagination of a ball of energy. I certainly agree about people in the west being relatively unaware of the traditional eastern wisdom pertaining to chi/ko, or the etheric body energy flows with which eastern people traditionally seem to be much more familiar with. Our western systems of physical exercize and development are based on rational, scientific principles and are effective for their purpose but completely neglect what can be done with the knowledge from the east. It is probably just myth or whatever, but the "Death Touch" was supposedly the Tai Chi master projecting his energy force to the opponent and causing death. Blowing out the flame of life with the wind of his energy force. I have no idea, but I would not like to volunteer to be the victim. :) (ostensibly, that is what Van Damme was supposedly demonstrating in the clip I showed). He projected his Chi through the stack of bricks and blew up the bottom one. The energy transfer is usually combined with a strike. Is it a mechanical or physical effect? Mysticism? Energy? I have no idea. Here is an article on the subject. [link to www.cleartaichi.com (secure)] Last Edited by JustmeTX on 08/25/2021 05:38 AM Justme |

Quoting: Augmentalist Love the foot stomp, real power there. Nothing is being made up, this is highly regulated. Yes, having that much power at his age (70 apparently) is highly unusual. You can also see it when he throws a punch (not sure he does throw any punches in this video though). A Dieu vat |
