Every major city is like that, you should see Pittsburgh its pretty entertaining. I was in Cleveland and between New York City, and Pittsburgh that Cleveland is like you will get into a fight with just about anyone in that place for talking shit on the city.

Moscow was like that wrt the rest of Russia during the Czar's time (the scene would move to Leningrad /St. Petersburg during part of the year) which continued forward with the Communists.

Paris has been like that wrt France for a couple of hundred years.

London has been like that wrt Great Britain for probably even longer than France.

It is just the way the Elites in virtually all countries feel about THEIR center of power city.

In the US the center of power city for 240 years has clearly been New York City, NOT the political Capital of DC, which is a bit different from most other countries. China is the same as the US, the true center of commerce and economic power for China for centuries has been Shanghai though the political Capital of the country for centuries has been Beijing.

Just the same as the U.K. thinks everything revolves around London and Manchester, and they think everybody works in an office.
