American Roots Music has two branches.
Appalachian Mountain Music has the Celtic lineage and gave us Bluegrass and Country Music.
Slave music was based in the South and gave us Blues and Jazz.
"Rock music" is a hybrid of the above.

Black people invented the blues. Rock music is HEAVILY based on the blues. White people took the blues style of music, improved on it, and made it their own. That's the facts.

The term had been used as a sexual innuendo since the '20s. It was used to define R&B by Alan Freed in 1951. It was NOT a black radio station, but DJ Freed began playing the R&B music of black musicians on his afternoon show.

On a side note Freeds father was a Russian immigrant who celebrated Hanukah and his mother was of Welsh decent.
