"Tail Numbers" or "N-Numbers" are aircraft identifiers.

I seem to remember a statement that there was an aircraft in the area that possibly recorded the incident.

Pretty good bet that the "tail number" in question could be traced back to the FIB. Video? A Dirt Box perhaps? Most likely both.

This suggests they didn't want that aircraft traced and/or entered into the court record.

We can all speculate as to why.
