Turning hard to port, which is left, foward speed creates dynamic on the rudder to turn the nose of the ship LEFT so it can get under the bridge.

Go to FULL REVERSE while still going forward ... the rudder acts in the OPPOSITE direction of what is turned to because the water flowing over the rudder is now going in the OPPOSITE direction (backwards as the rudder sees it, but while the ship itself is still gong forward).

See all the black smoke come out of the stacks? Probably had an engine stop, got it restarted, and ship then went FULL REVERSE because of bridge up ahead .. but rudder being full over to turn it left and suddenly with all that water now flowing BACKWARDS over the rudder caused the ship itself to swing the bow in the opposite direction, to the RIGHT (starboard) and swing it HARD and suddenly.

Since ship was still moving forward ... bow will swing to the right but ship will now be turning right until the forward motion stops and it actually starts going in reverse.

Simple ship handling and simple physics 101 for a big ship.

Have no idea how long it takes on a ship that size for the rudder to swing over but you can be sure it is NOT instantaneous like it is on a small vessel since it weighs in the 100's of tons ... or if they can even swing it at all if the engine stops.

None of this happened. Vessel went full forward, full right rudder

I watched the video a few times but it seems like at the last moment he started turning the other way it could be mechanical failure or the pilot was sleeping in the job

This event benefits China because it shuts down all competing exports from this area. So I think China is behind it somehow. Perhaps they used AI to determine how to hit the bridge while making it seem like an accident. Perhaps the AI controlled the ship remotely.
