The public schools just need to install the New Jerusalem foundation to fix themselves.

Yeah, pull yer kids outta school.

who needs an education when you gots Christmas carols to learn?

Difficult to get a proper education in today's public school system. There is a general lack of discipline leading to much distraction for the students that are actually there to learn something.

Look at the statistics for success in college and standardized test scores comparing public school children to parochial private and home schoolers. Those in private/homeschool do much better.

I was able to homeschool my kid for a while. When she had to return the next year to public school, the teachers couldn't believe how far ahead of the rest of the kids she was.

More individual attention from someone who really cares, lessons tailored for the kid and their interests, keeping them engaged in learning longer - making them want to learn more...it's difficult to beat if done right.

Agreed that many home schooled kids do very well in comparison to others. However, by the same token many kids who are home-schooled by parents are also lacking some very basic skills (especially social skills) in comparison.

The issue is of course why a child is being home-schooled. If the child is home-schooled for good reasons by people who take literacy, numeracy, philosophy, history, geography, etc, seriously it should work out. However, I see a disturbing trend in parents taking kids out of school not because public education is lacking but because they don't agree with its "politics".

In other words, its not ok to pull your kids out of school just so that you can teach them whatever crap you feel like because particular aspects of learning threaten your own ideological system.

How many kids are pulled out of school so they can pursue "careers" as models, actors, and beauty queens? How many are pulled out of school because Mom and Dad think the only book that matters is the bible? How many are pulled out of school just because its "boring"? How many are pulled out of school cause they just don't like the other kids? How many are pulled out of school so that they can be given a racist education? Etc, etc, etc.

Also teaching isn't as easy as it looks. I know most people for whatever reason have a pretty low opinion of teachers. I think this is cause everybody has had a shitty teacher and we all remember that one at the expense of others who did fantastic jobs. However, because everyone was once a student, nearly everyone thinks they can teach too, and often better than the ones they remember.

Simply untrue. Not every parent is qualified to teach grammar, mathematics, science, history, etc. Many don't have the correct education themselves, lacking anything but the most basic skills, and even those with the skills don't necessarily know the best means of passing those skills along.

If there are problems with public education the solution is not to abandon it but reform it. Public education is a cornerstone of American democracy.
