I think the reason is because one side claims that if your wrong you burn in hell for eternity and then they act like that's not offensive.

Christians often have a smug 'You'll get yours when jebus/god/the tooth fairy turns up' attitude that gets up ones nose, or call you spawn of satan for some deluded reason. That has the same effect, also it's fun to watch them bob up and down in righteous anger at some little jest.

No, the best one is when Christians call Atheists God-haters for not believing in God. It's indicative of typical Christian logic, ironically.

I have never seen a miracle, or stigmata that is consistent with the wounds of Christ; but I have seen Doctors curing blood diseases that cause *gasp* bleeding from the skin/head/orifices.

Its easy if we can have a conversation about science or politics without God then it would be fine.

The natural enemies of atheists and theists are polytheists.

Atheists and Theists agree there are NOT two or more Gods, so this is something to work from for greater mutual understanding and dialog.

Certainly atheists should direct their vitriol against polytheists and join their theistic brothers in condemning the profane arguments of polytheists and their multiple deity idiocy.

Theists have argued for centuries that the belief in many Gods is absurd and against the laws of reason.

The Roman Empire was ultimately brought down by sectarianism, and cults that formed around the many God's of the empire - many God's causes social disunity, chaos and a return to primitivism.

Christians have made Jesus - the very human figure of a 1st century palestinian carpenter the image of the struggle against multiple god delusions of the Romans and barbaric mysticism that plagued mankind for centuries. While Polytheistic culture imploded - monotheism thrived and rebuilt the world after the fall of Rome.

Later the Prophet Muhammad drove the polytheists out of arabia and heralded the great rise of Islamic science and reason. Technology and humanity triumphed.

Later great thinkers of the enlightenment joined the chorus to overthrow the order of the pantheon of Gods and start mankind on a journey that would enable us to venture into space and launch the scientific revolution.
