The idea of ANY coronal mass ejection hitting us while that ICMB missile is still in orbit makes me sick to my stomach. That thing could literally fall out of the sky and hit anywhere if the CME's big enough, could it not?

X class are the largest, followed by M,C, B, and A class. It is a log scale. An X class (the largest type) would be 100 times larger than a C class.

So a C-4 with a glancing blow is basically not much.

Here is the breakdown of what a C-4 class flare is:

C-class flares are small with few noticeable consequences here on Earth.

Each category for x-ray flares has nine subdivisions ranging from, e.g., C1 to C9, M1 to M9, and X1 to X9

But you can see the stream of solar wind (particles) and the small cme's.

Whatever the case, we're fine.

Yes, I always keep track of these things. Remember the "All I can say is..."-thread earlier this year? I'm covinced that something is going to influence our lives in a big way.

Your answer to the C-4 class question gave me the impression you know more about this solar flare/wind/CME-thing...I get confused from time to time...one of the results of spending too much time on GLP is, sometimes you start to believe in certain (doom)things just because of the the constant repetitions of the stories....I still wonder whether its a real threat to us or not....even after reading the Sickscent postings on the subject, I still don't know....any thoughts?

Yeah, well I'm still in the learning phase (who's not?). I followed the Boeing employee thread a while ago and I'm a loyal Sickscent-reader.

Always been interested in the sun. I still have my HAM-radio license somewhere (no longer active), so I know activities on the sun have a big influence on what happens down here.

C4 is nothing to worry about. We've had X26 or so without any shocking consequences for our tiny planet.
But, since we discover more and more onforseen "things" in space, which could have their influence on either the sun or the magnetic field of both the sun and the earth, I thinki we haven't seen it all.

And although maybe no direct threat for this moment, it could easily change in a couple of months.

Be on the lookout for quakes, crazy weather and volcanoes.
