You have to get out of the citys... To those who are wondering why. It will be hell, so many many people fighting over so little. They will become gangland, a very fast moving gangland where those who don't hold the water/food will be fighting for it and those that do won't last very long. Anonymous Coward User ID: 1239826 United States 01/22/2011 09:06 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'd be happy. I've got sub-zero sleeping bags and candles in the house. I would make into a family adventure time. It's cold enough outside to keep lots of foods fresh too. I think a lot of people would welcome some time in the dark. It's peaceful to be disconnected. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 875198for 5 months? probably more, it would take years to replace all damaged transformers if those were damaged, if ever . |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 998378 Canada 01/22/2011 09:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I used to live in the frozen north by a glacial lake. Some Saturday nights the the electric pole on the west side of the lake would get taken out by a drunk or a big blizzard would kill the power for days. Wood burning stove made for little or no problems. Cooked on it too. Closed off one room to act as fridge. Put a Box on the north side of house, was the freezer. Very peaceful. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 499281 United States 01/22/2011 09:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | First thing that I'd do is to phone someone in another province. Land lines work with no power. I still have an old phone that requires no power to work. Quoting: Final..FrontierNo such thing, sorry. Even old POTS phones required line voltage. Cordless phones don't work without power because of the battery pack. But the old phones with cords work just fine. There's been many times I've been without power but the landline phone worked because I always keep a cord phone around. The only time a landline phone with cord wouldn't work is if the storm also took down telephone lines besides the power lines. More often than not I have telephone service when power is out. |

Quoting: OTOCAll out, all gone. And how would you react. For one you won't have any idea how much area has lost power, and you don't know if and when it will come back up. You're sitting there now in front of your computer and suddenly everything goes dark. Satellites down, all comms down, radio down, all power including telephone lines down. Everything we base our lives on today gone in 10 seconds. You cannot contact anyone outside of your shouting distance and you have no information as to what's happened. What would you do? Realistically of course. I would masterbate twice as hard, then I'd rinse, lather and repeat. |
NiNzrez User ID: 1135433 United States 01/22/2011 09:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think it is really easy for GLPers to say they would grab their bags and head out to another location. We are a bit more mentally prepared than 99% of the world. I think bugging out to another location is the last thing anyone should be doing. People outside of the know will be freaking like we have never seen before. There would be massive looting and people would not be basing their actions on any future consequences. I have my food storage, water stored, candles, wood and a fireplace and I have already prepped doors to my place with steal bars. If the grids went down right now I would pull out a candle and stay put while the outside world kills its self off with madness. How about you OTOC.. what would you do? If my car wouldn't start then I would know it would be time to batten down the hatches....and within 5 minutes I would be at a friends house to tell them something was wrong and start packing up food and supplies and then get over to my house. After that I can't say cause don't want the entire world to know how big of a group we are. Safety in numbers though. |

Next, I would light the candle on the kitchen table. Last I would check for a dial tone on the phone and check to see if my cell phone works. After finding that all of those are not working, I would try my radio and also the short wave to see if any signals are picked up. |
