Re: If The Attack On Unions Continue To Spread Look For Other Unions To Strike Too Including Teamsters Freight Will Stop
There is a huge difference between private and public unions. Politicians promise the people's money. It's not their money and they will be out of office when the math don't work any more. The market place controls most unions to a certain degree. If non union shops compete better than union shops then unions will die off.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1243346

See here is the problem the truck drivers are promised their bosses clients money. The bosses clients pay on the basis of what their clients pay them and on and on ad nauseum. The only virgin money is that which is sitting at the Treasury just printed. EVERYONE WORKS FOR SOMEBODY get it!

Re: If The Attack On Unions Continue To Spread Look For Other Unions To Strike Too Including Teamsters Freight Will Stop
i dont care about private sector unions one bit. Let them go on strike if they want to, there are plenty of other nonunion companies ready to fill the market with their goods and services. When they go on strike they are holding their companies hostage for whatever it is they are asking for.
The difference between them and govt unions is the fact that when they go on strike they are holding taxpayers hostage. The people who employ the teachers and fireman and police officers of state x are the taxpayers of state x. If the people didnt pay taxes then those people would have no job and no income. They are withholding thee labor which the taxpayers have paid for and demanding that the taxpayers cough up more money in order to resume providing their services. I strongly oppose the collective bargaining and ability of unionizing of any government employee. I am strongly in favor of voluntary unionization of private sector employees. Good thing the military can't unionize if you want to talk about shitty pay and benefits along with the most dangerous work environment imaginable.

Re: If The Attack On Unions Continue To Spread Look For Other Unions To Strike Too Including Teamsters Freight Will Stop
So I was talking to a good friend that is president of a local union where I live. They are planning rallies around the country to support the Wisconsin workers. Unions around the country are getting ready to mobilize and are planning to strike if this trend continues around the U.S.

So this union president was telling me that there has been discussions with the Teamsters and that they may strike if it comes down to it because they see this legislation as all out assault on unions. The Teamsters of course control not all but a good part of the truckers around the country.

So could freight stop or slow down? Maybe. It could definitely slow down food and other goods around the country. Be interesting to see what happens. What say you?

Re: If The Attack On Unions Continue To Spread Look For Other Unions To Strike Too Including Teamsters Freight Will Stop
Chef, dear, you need to do a bit more investigation! What is happening in Wisconsin IS NOT an attack on ALL unions! It has to do with the PUBLIC EMPLOYEES and the union which represents them. All he is telling them is that the State is BROKE, and all the prancing around, vitriol, and sign-waving is not going to change that fact.

Having been a member of a State union, I can tell you that they approach any negotiation in an antagonistic way, demanding this, that, and the other thing or they'll strike. That used to work, but now THERE IS NO MORE MONEY!! The Governor is merely asking them to provide a single-digit percentage contribution to their OWN health-care (which is now free) and to their OWN retirement funds. He is not trying to wipe them out; rather, he is trying to come up with a way that EVERYONE can keep their jobs! If they are UNWILLING to do the right thing to keep ALL of their colleagues working, then he will have no choice other than to lay off teachers.

What this really boils down to is that the UNION is worried that their billion-dollar gravy-train is now in danger of getting side-tracked. They see the writing on the wall, that if they "lose ground" in Wisconsin, they will be set to lose ground in the other 49 states which also, co-incidentally, are BROKE. So they are desperately whipping up their membership, creating chaos and turmoil so no one has the time or inclination to say "Wait a minute, maybe we need to take a fresh look at the role of unions in the modern world. Maybe we need to ask why, if these people are PUBLIC employees, are the taxpayers (their "employers" who are paying for their salaries and benefits) being put into the "pigeonhole" of the big, fat, greedy "boss" whenever there are contract negotiations?"

Walmart hauls alot of their own freight.

Yes and No

Walmart has distribution centers in which everythig is brought into by other companies. From there it is moved to the stores.

So they would run out as well.

i say fire em all and ban them from receiving any state benefits for life due to their dereliction of duties.

But what about the students? Well the crybaby teachers union may try to stay on strike through the rest of the schoolyear anyway, so the students may be fukd unfortunately. Just get rid of the teachers now and send a sign to the rest of the state employees that they have a responsibility first and foremost to the taxpaying citizens of their state. Also make sure you fire them for dereliction of duty and negligence so that they are not eligible for unemployment.

Things are about to get real serious.

I am an independent voter but I think the Republicans really may have miscalculated this move and I wouldn't be surprised if it backfires on them.

I have seen plenty of political cartoons with greedy CEOs taking money from poor little teachers.

24/7 Media coverage especially with that prank call deal yesterday is not good for the Republicans on this issue.
 Quoting: The Chef

Those poor teachers, and some of them are poor teachers as not good, make very good wages. It is not the taxpayers fault that the DEMOCRATS gave all that stimulus money to bankers and Wall Street.

They do pick up a bunch or their own stuff also.

But last year they cut their fleet by 500 trucks making them more dependent on outside carriers.

So they would run out sooner then in the past years.

Like I said before truckers are truckers and if there was a "shut down day" a lot of truckers will honor it due to low pay.

The president of the local told me these things so they are not my opinion only what they have been told or what they think might happen.

Since I am not a Teamster I have no idea if this will or could happen or not.

The union did offer concessions to the governor everything he asked except the collective bargaining rights. With all the other states following so quickly you have to believe it is a strategy from a higher level.
 Quoting: The Chef

1) Why would Teamsters care anyway?1dunno1
They are not government employees.

2) The Collective Bargaining rights on pensions and bennies are the reason the local counties, municipalities and towns cannot cut back on their budgets. Their hands are tied by UNION CONTRACTS forced down on them by State rules.
In order to be able to adjust their budgeets as they need to locally....the COLLECTIVE BARGAINING RIGHTS must go.
 Quoting: Burt Gummer

The video explains why they might care. They consider it a litmus test on workers rights so there you go.
 Quoting: The Chef

This is exactly what this issue is about. Things are never what they appear to be. There is always a deeper meaning.

As far as the teamsters. I remember back in 2000, when they did a protest on high diesel prices. The time was set to 'slow down' on the roads and they did it. I was on I-65 at the time. I believe it was right around rush hour. What an eerie feeling when all the big rigs slowed down to a crawl. Now that is POWER.

Thanx for your topic. It is very interesting and needs to be discussed by all citizens of this country.
I think that this completely transcends Dems VS GOP when it comes to the Union discourse. I think that ALL of or Gov. are in on this one to create more Chaos and ultimately pit each of us against the other. I really feel as tho this has been the plan all along. Just MHO.

Shell game.

On the one hand, it is the desire of globalists to get rid of unions. Should the unions step down on strike, other foreign workers are waiting to drive our trucks and work our docks.

On the second hand, the world is lost. All these protests are disguises for end game. Nothing is being shipped anyhow so this will make it look like it was the unions decisions even though they probably were working on 30 year lows.

Re: If The Attack On Unions Continue To Spread Look For Other Unions To Strike Too Including Teamsters Freight Will Stop
I hope all the unions go on strike at the same time. THis will clearly demonstrate the power (stranglehold) that unions have over key aspects of our infrastructure. Hopefully people will then really get mad and vote all unions out. Several members of my family are in unions and firmly believe in them. However, all I see is an organization that is only interested in maintaining their power base and funding. Putting the workers first is definitely not their priority.
