Very similar to the one from a few months ago that was off the SW limb, that was directed away from us and all the scientist said it was a good thing that it was or we would have been fried! Remember? I will see if I can find it.

I thought this was kinda cool. Not sure what it is but if ya look out in front of the CME just before it happens you can see a cloud of something floating and when the particles from the cme hits it..it heats up and turns yellow...cme blows right through it...any theories on ehat this is..a lift off of plasma before the cme??

Thanks for the heads up NIN. That global D region map is intense. It's how it got when Japan 9.0 hit. Remember my thread that day on 3/11/2011. I thought it was pole shift then 1 hour later 9.0 hit Japan. I will be watching it, if it get's more red in the middle send out the alarms.

Moving at an estimated speed of 1950 km/s, this CME is expected to sweep up two earlier CMEs already en route. Analysts at the GSFC Space Weather Lab say the combined cloud should reach Earth on August 5th at 13:55 UT plus or minus 7 hours: "The impact on Earth is likely to be major. The estimated maximum geomagnetic activity index level Kp is 7 (Kp ranges from 0 - 9). The flanks of the CME may also impact STEREO A, Mars and Mercury/MESSENGER." High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras. Aurora alerts: text, voice.

we need to keep a close eye on this

Well to me the sunspots arn't anywhere near the 60 degree mark. That doesn't mean it's a non event, but I feel a little better.
