I follow this thread daily and it's very exciting sometimes. I'm still learning about all this sun stuff and the planets etc. My personal (uneducated) vieuw on this is that I think that the days around 13 and 18 august are going to be interesting days, because of the full moon on the thirteenth and the alignment of earth, mercury, sun and venus, with elenin on 90 degrees on the eighteenth. Am I right? I have also some questions: is it possible for sunspot 1263 to come around the sun again, and will it still be that big? And how long will it take if he did? |

joinca User ID: 1387891 United States 08/10/2011 12:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sun rotation information: The web address is here: [link to www.windows2universe.org] We can tell how quickly the surface of the Sun is rotating by observing the motion of structures, such as sunspots, on the Sun's visible surface. The regions of the Sun near its equator rotate once every 25 days. The Sun's rotation rate decreases with increasing latitude, so that its rotation rate is slowest near its poles. At its poles the Sun rotates once every 36 days! The interior of the Sun does not spin the same way as does its surface. Scientists believe that the inner regions of the Sun, including the Sun's core and radiative zone, do rotate more like a solid body. The outer parts of the Sun, from the convective zone outward, rotate at different rates that vary with latitude. The boundary between the inner parts of the Sun that spin together as a whole and the outer parts that spin at different rates is called the "tachocline". The behavior of the Sun's magnetic field is strongly influenced by the combination of convective currents, which bring the charged plasma from deep within the Sun to the Sun's surface, and the differential rotation of the outer layers of the Sun. The complex, swirling motions that result make a tangled mess of magnetic field lines at the Sun's surface. Differential rotation is apparently the main driver of the 11-year sunspot cycle and the associated 22-year solar cycle. The notion that differential rotation and convective motion drive these cycles was first put forth in 1961 by the American astronomer Horace Babcock, and is now known as the Babcock Model. NiNzrez (OP) User ID: 1135433 United States 08/10/2011 02:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | quite a bit going on today on the sun i thought i would give an update on what we see today here is a photo where you can see the regions on the sun so that we can all follow where to look on the following photos [link to www.solen.info] sunspot 1263 is about to rotate of the western edge (to the far right) but it is not going quietly here is a few photos of what 1263 loos like right now [link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov] [link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov] the two dark lines we see in the southern section are filaments that we are watching for any instability as they are earth facing we have a prominance section in the far northern section that has been dancing around all day today [link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov] [link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov] at region S1159 we can see a small flare that looks to have a CME associated with it [link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov] we also have another Coronal Hole that has rotated earth's direction Solar wind flowing from the indicated coronal should reach Earth on or about Aug. 14th (dark area to the left) [link to spaceweather.com] we will see the effects of this CH on the magnetosphere simulation when it reaches earth [link to www2.nict.go.jp] also there is a lot of question about the last 2 CME from 1263 and if they will be geoeffective or not. watch the nict. If we do get one, it will show up on here when it arrives. I suspect we indeed will see some CME effects Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) August 7: No obviously Earth directed CMEs were observed in LASCO or STEREO imagery. August 8: The M3.5 flare in region 11263 produced a fast partial halo CME. August 9: The X6.9 event in region 11263 was associated with a fast full halo CME. [link to www.solen.info] NOAA report from yesterday: IIB. Geophysical Activity Forecast: The geomagnetic field is expected to be predominantly quiet to unsettled for the next three days (10-12 August). Unsettled conditions are expected on Day 1 (10 August) as a weak remnant of the 08 August CME arrives. Currently, a return to mostly quiet conditions is expected on Days 2 and 3 (11-12 August). Analysis of the 09/0906Z CME is presently underway to determine its potential geoeffectiveness. Gabriel User ID: 1493617 United States 08/10/2011 03:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Our solar system is in a giant magnetic field called the Heliosphere. Basically, it is the solar winds. The solar winds flow out in the form of a protecting magnetic bubble. The edge of the Heliosphere, is called the boundary and is where the solar winds meet interstellar space. The boundary of the Heliosphere protects the solar system from foreign particles from super novas, etc. They come in the form of clouds. Only the most energetic can make it through our Heliosphere. Some call it a magnetic ribbon but whatever you name it, its here. And its effecting our entire solar system just like a CME would if it penetrated our magnetosphere. Known and unknown particles are bombarding us also. DNA changing particles. So if you have been feeling differently lately.... this could be it. Just my thoughts to share..... |

I'm based on a theory about what causes solar flares is the same that causes EQs, so they both seem "cause effect" but only in appearance. Planetary alignments and position wrt the galactic center are the triggers. But a noticeable EQ is totally on the menu in the next 15 days. The question now is where. |
