Anonymous Coward User ID: 1333914 United States 04/09/2011 08:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I forgot to add, I know it's not anything I am actually smelling in the air, it's something within the olfactory nerves or something. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1325387Ideas anyone? So you've asked other people if they can smell it and they can't? Where about do you live? |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 1325387 United States 04/09/2011 08:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes I have asked others and no one else can smell it. I am usually indoors (I work from home) and my windows have been closed. On the days this weird sensation/smell is present, it seems to fluctuate in intensity throughtout the day. It will be really intense for a few minutes then mild or not noticeable a few minutes later. It's not anxiety related either. The times I have been nervous about something it doesn't happen. I have even tried to trigger it by intentionally thinking about stressful things, but I can't do it. I just woke up this morning and there it was! Very weird. |

Well, I have heard of reports of people smelling odd things and getting strange sensations at the same time from tumors. I would definitely talk to a doctor very soon. Brain tumors are not something to play around with. I hope you are alright! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1141935Thanks for the serious input. No, it does not. I am not diabetic but I have a meter which I occasionally use to test my blood sugar with, it always tests normal. I visited the doctor a month ago who tested my thyroid (normal), FSH (normal), and did a urine test (normal). But my red blood cell count was low. |

Not sure - could just be disturbance in the taste receptors (smell is actually connected to taste). A few years ago I suffered for a month or so of unbearable salt taste - and everything tasted too salty. Was told it was a nerve/receptor problem and that it would eventually go. |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 1325387 United States 04/09/2011 08:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I used to get a smell like that when I was getting an infection, like strep throat. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 961432My son did have a cold around the time this thing started and I had a very mild version of it which only lasted about 2 days. My nose was burning really bad the very first time it happend (in Feb) like I had inhaled some really strong fumes. The burning lasted almost a whole day. After that the bleach smell came. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 961432This. Plus every other smell is about 1000 times stronger. Few days before I came down with whooping cough, I am walking down the street and thinking to myself: "Geez, this city really STINKS!" I should have known right there to start overdosing on echinacea, but didn't even occur to me at the time. |

I came to determine it was my own olfactory thing. It's disturbing when it comes. I don't know what brings it on... So ...I can relate. I'm in Southern California. |

I never get a breath of air that doesn't smell like ciggies. I don't smoke. Anyway, did you strip paint or anything like that? |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 1325387 United States 04/09/2011 10:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OP, maybe you've damaged your nerves by using a strong chemical cleaning agent or paint remover, etc. Quoting: jellybean224 967614I used straight bleach to clean the toilets one time, instead of diluting it, and I've been smelling cigarette smoke ever since. I never get a breath of air that doesn't smell like ciggies. I don't smoke. Anyway, did you strip paint or anything like that? OP-do you have a neighbor with a swimming pool? Maybe they're dumping chlorine in it. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1253484If you buy a amall bag of pool shock at the grocery store and sniff it, maybe it will recalibrate your nose receptors. I live in apartment that does not have a pool (darn). The only things I can think of would be this: In mid December I was hit on the head by my car hood. It hurt but I really didn't think much of it. In the following days I had headaches and dizziness (which I have often anyhow). Ten days after the incident I was beginning to see sparkly things falling like snow and blobs of color (no drugs, lol). I was almost falling down at the store I was soooo dizzy so I went to the ER. The did not do an MRI or CAT scan due to the newly discovered dangers of radiation. They said I they thought I was okay based on my appearance. They did a urine test on me though - I suppose they thought I was high whan I told them I was seeing blueish-green blobs falling onto the table LOL! They discovered ketones in my urine (I had not eaten all day) and that I was dehydrated. They gave me 1000 mL of replacement fluid and sent me home. I sometimes wonder if this could be leftover from the hit on the head??? The week prior to the nose thing starting, my apartment was being remodeled. They did some very minor painting. The DAY problem started they were painting the hallway of our apartment building - IN WINTER - DUH!! Could not even open the windows! I thought that was really stupid. After the problem began I sealed around my door with tape, wondering if the painting had triggered whatever this thing was. But then it went away several days later. The strange thing is, it keeps coming back! Oh, another thing that happened on the day it started. My son had a bad cold/flu and I thought maybe I was coming down with it because my nose was getting this tingle in it. I made a cup of Kratom tea and being the experimenter / amateur scientist that I am, LOL I cupped my hands over the mug and breathed in the steam hoping it might help my nose. LOL. It didn't irritate it any more, but the odd sensation began several hours later. But maybe I did mess up something with the Kratom fumes, who knows. If that were the case though, you'd think other people might have that happen too just from smelling the tea as they drink it. Thanks guys for trying to help me figure this out!!! GLP is the best!!! |
