Shaq Foo' User ID: 17974491 Belgium 06/15/2012 05:28 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | And for the few times I watch Mythbusters, it's for the stuff blowing up. Because that's what the internet said they do. And while I'm typing, the Mentalist is a god awful show. So is season 8 of HouseMD. And it's only a matter of time until Castle goes the same way. HIMYM is going downhill as well. Burn notice I only watch because Bruce Campbell is in it. ... What were we talking about anyway? |

Kapil User ID: 34010876 India 02/09/2013 11:36 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | well as i see it, its all fake. Quoting: baronmad 1496509 there have been over 100 scientific studies of hypnosis, and they have all been very conclusive on one subject, you can never make someone do something that is against their nature. Along with that of the studies made hypnosis only works on about 40-50% of the human population and it does not work the way it is showed in the program. 90% of everyone that has been subject to working hypnosis says that it does not resemble sleep at all, nor do you lose consciousness during the "programming" and they do remember what was said during the hypnosis. there is more to that ofcourse. to hypnotizise someone will take roughly 30-45 minutes. now this being an american show (wich does say one hell of a lot about it) we can deduct a few things, what the show is mostly about is forcefeeding you with nonsense, slowing down own thoughts (you are not required to have one single thought during the show) this resembles the majority of american shows ive seen. and here at the end, most of american shows are only there to instill some sort of fear for things no one has to be afraid of. "monsters inside me" comes to mind. Today Hypnosis is a matter of seconds and not 30-45 minutes.... Update your knowledge about it |

As Mentalism is a branch of the art of magic and illusion. It is presented as entertainment and so FAKE in that sense but, unlike comedy or drama, if later it creates real thought and discussion of the paranormal advancement or enlightenment, then the illusion still goes on. This does not happen with one on one shared psychic sessions. A technical analogy is a physicist where they are not any different from the next but the way they present, what usually is, their content is just a routine of old information that a student could know but can't express because it is not theirs initially to express. Things seems more fake with age and that is the reality. Last Edited by swampy on 02/09/2013 11:22 PM |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 37144534 United Kingdom 03/30/2013 11:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You're asking if an illusionist is real? Sure. And Derren Brown is also real. They are really not lying when they say they are reading body language or using the power of suggestion. Actually, they ARE. Derren is quite open about it in his books. They use things like spotters using radio controlled pager motors to send them signals, hidden magnets in objects and a hall-effect sensor secreted on their person, and STOOGES. That's what menatlism IS: Conning gullible fools into believing it's all done with superhuman powers of concentration/memory/observation and that you too can learn to control people and read their thoughts. You can't. Nor can they. As for the douche saying everything on TV is controlled by "them" and is a lie...sure. The only place you find the truth is on conspiracy websites on the internet. |

Julz User ID: 42570587 Lebanon 06/30/2013 06:23 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Guys, What I think is that although there's some truth to the show, it's still mostly (up to 90%) fake. Let me expand on this: 1- Mentalism is about understanding someone by analyzing their behavioral and cognitive actions/reactions. Take an experience behavioral psychologist for instance, they can scientifically get to the same conclusions. However, mentalism also largely consists of WAG's. So as someone suggested above, they might have made many attempts and only showed the ones that worked - but only for trivial stuff. 2- Let's suppose the show is real and contains no fakes whatsoever. Then the hypnosis part of it must be also real. However, as someone stated above, hypnosis doesn't work this way. If you ask any psychologist, especially psychoanalysts - the creators of hypnosis, they would tell how wrong it is depicted on TV. It's nothing like that. I've tried myself with an experienced psychoanalyst. It takes several sessions for someone to really get hypnotized. Plus it would never work if: a. the person doesn't want to get hypnotized, b. the person doesn't believe he can get hypnotized, c. the person doesn't trust the person who's performing the hypnosis. So an experienced psychoanalyst and hypnosis practitioner would say what they show on TV is 100% wrong. I have a friend who's a psychoanalyst and who practices hypnosis and he confirmed what I just said. So it's now safe to say that the show definitely has a fake aspect. How much is it? I can't tell. |
Lucky Charms User ID: 42571309 Ireland 06/30/2013 06:38 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I would say that Keith Barry is highly qualified at the following ... Quoting: Gemini420 1437801 - reading body language - hypnosis - human psychology - misdirection - power of suggestion (pseudo-hypnosis) No he is not, I can assure you of that. But the viewer is carefully led to assume he is (even when not explicitly stated). He is however highly qualified in using material and methods created by many great magicians, names which you likely have never heard... Banachek, Burger, Corinda. All the stuff you mentioned is not how he does the trick... In the branch of magic known as Mentalism, leading your audience to believe you are some kind of body language NLP hypnotist genius is the trick. Keith is a great mentalist fo' sho' yo (and a rather poor card magician, but that's just my opinion) and getting better as he gets older. He also does an awesome bullet catch. 'Magically Delicious' |
Grammar Nazi User ID: 45541930 United States 08/21/2013 08:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I watched this last night. The movie theater scene had a continuity error. The first person they interviewed after letting the viewers out into the lobby said something like "it was the funniest thing I've ever scene", but that same person was scene awake during the hypnosis. He was a young male, brown hair, glasses, mid 20's, blue hoodie sweatshirt. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1411328 Why would one of the 15% that did not get hypnotized say 'it was funny'. I suppose he never said the movie was funny and was referring to people being hypnotized as funny. SEEN* SEEN* SEEN*!!! |
