I would ensure the comfort of the people in my life, family, friends, people who have had a positive impact and would graciously seek assistance from those I've helped to assist in getting kids off the streets. Homeless children.

It's funny you say that. In a good way it really isn't about changing someones life as much as it is about helping them to help themselves.

Everyone has dreams. In this materialistic world though, many do not have the means to see their dreams to fruition.

I ignored this thread at first because to me money means very little. True happiness comes from giving, not receiving.

I will never forget the kindness shown to me. It is embedded in the very being of who I am. In many ways, I would just love to be able to give a little bit more. :)

I would pay off loans on the dairy farms in my community and buy all the land I can get between me and the river, Then I would get a really big sailboat and dock it in this perfect town where the river meets the lake. Then I would bring people to the area to frolic and play with me and all my dogs while we frolic in fields of manure laden with ...

In truth i would buy land and establish clean energy to completely be off the grid,Solar panel, hydro and wind energy also. I would start a community based with love whos willing to take care of themselves and live off the land. A place where kids could grow up not preprogrammed to judge others. A place where familys dont have to worry about money, infact once the land and supplies were bought id either buy food and give to disaster victims personally or burn the rest of it. I would hope to create a place where people could grow spiritually without condemnation. A place where faith can be rebuilt where its not bombarded by programmed doubt. Place of hope and true peace. But i dont expect this to be handed to me. Its just what i would do if it was. Peace,love and understanding.

If you have that kind of money, here is an idea I had that I would do if I ever won the lottery.

I would go to the cities homeless shelter and I would talk to the counselor there and ask what family works hard and just can't get a break?

Then I would set them up in an apartment in a nice neighborhood for a year with the stipulation that they work and not do anything illegal and that after the year was over they would be responsible for themselves.

I would do it over and over again. Helping many families.

I believe there are many families out there that just need that first helping hand.

If this were for real, I would love to see the outcome and witness whatever good comes from it.

That in itself would be satisfying enough!!

Honestly I wouldn't want the entire 5 million. I would want just enough to pay off my home. Then I could use the extra income from my job to go to my childrens college fund. I would basically need maybe 6% of the money. Good question OP.

It's a pity that these days, money is the thing that stops many people from being able to / want to give.

I want to be able to give my 3 kids a safe place to play outside, and to learn to plant things, grow food etc, but have no garden (and rent arrears so high there's no hope in the future of changing from our 2 bed top floor flat).

My partner wants to change careers, and do something he loves, after being let go from his old job due to cutbacks, but with no experience, and no money to gain relevant qualifications, it doesn't seem like he's going to succeed.

We took a lady in from Libya a few days ago as she was about to be made homeless. I couldn't see her on the streets, but really I can't even afford to feed myself / my partner / my kids - I can see why it doesn't happen much.

Sadly, I understand why many don't have the time / energy to help others, when often it's a struggle just to keep your own family above water these days.

There's many things that can be done to help without giving money. A kind word can change a life, even save one. At least those things are free!
