IF ONLY even 50% of the people could read and UNDERSTAND what is written here, it might save civilization. Banned from public education ! I taught it to all my students, but when ONE doctor/'god' couldn't answer his child's question, the 'god' called the principle demanding I stop teaching the information. Such IS their shallow ego and their 'god like' power over PUBLIC teaching. I left the teaching profession, subsequently ! Eagle |

Silver Shows a fairly strong correlation, dunnit? 5-6 days in the jet stream. With modern technology... it would be a snap for the people in the know to forecast and deliver warnings to the peeps... but, it ain't happening.. Didn't happen quickly enough in Japan, either. Such a shame. |

What a deal..! Who the hell negotiated this wonderful enterprise for us..? Well we don't have to pay to store it yet because it isn't being stored except to just float around in water near the plant as I understand it. So thats good no long term storage fees yet because the owners expect to die before it is permanently stored, and die rich. The subsidies and tax exemptions provided to the nuclear industry ensure that we pay for everything... |

FORUM: Permitting uranium mining begins water wars [link to rapidcityjournal.com] [snip] The Canadian company Powertech plans to mine uranium in Custer and Fall River County. They will use a minimum of 4,000 to possibly 8,000 gallons of water per minute from the Madison Aquifer. That comes to 5,760,000 to 11,520,000 gallons per day. This could dry up water sources for the ranchers and the towns of Edgemont and Hot Springs. What are legislators and commissioners doing about water security? |
Waterbug (OP) User ID: 1295673 United States 11/19/2012 09:46 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Speak Out on Nuclear Waste [link to www.riverkeeper.org] [snip] On June 8, 2012, Riverkeeper and our allies won a landmark U.S. Court of Appeals decision nullifying the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s “Waste Confidence Rule,” which has allowed each U.S. nuclear reactor to store highly radioactive nuclear waste on site. The now-invalidated rule presumed that waste stored at reactors would go to a national nuclear waste dump someday and that the storage of spent fuel at individual reactors is temporary and causes “no significant environmental impact.” Because of our landmark court victory, there is no longer any legal basis for plants like Indian Point to avoid studying the environmental impacts of long-term nuclear waste storage in fuel pools or dry storage. At Indian Point, spent fuel has leaked carcinogenic nuclear waste into groundwater and the Hudson River, and its unfortified storage structure has been considered as a target of terrorists. The Court’s decision forces the NRC to address the risks of nuclear waste disposal before any U.S. nuclear plant, including Indian Point, may be licensed or re-licensed. This reckoning is long overdue. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 27889854 Sweden 11/19/2012 11:09 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Radioactive sludge waits for disposal Nearly 88,000 tons of sewage sludge and incineration ash contaminated with radioactive substances from last year's nuclear plant accident has still not been removed to a permanent disposal site. The radioactive fallout from the Fukushima nuclear plant disaster polluted soil and water in regions around the facility. The government is obliged to find disposal sites for the sludge and ash with cesium levels of more than 8,000 becquerels per kilogram in each prefecture. Such waste totaled 87,800 tons in 11 prefectures as of November 2nd, far exceeding the government's initial estimate of 50,000 tons. Fukushima Prefecture has the most at nearly 70,000 tons, which is about 80 percent of the total. Shizuoka and Yamagata prefectures were recently added to the list of sites that require clean-up, with about 11 tons of waste in total. The 2 prefectures are relatively far from Fukushima. Anonymous Coward User ID: 27889854 Sweden 11/19/2012 11:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The Fukushima prefectural government will abolish a nuclear fuel tax imposed on two power plants operated by Tokyo Electric Power Co., Fukushima Gov. Yuhei Sato said Monday, as the prefecture seeks the decommissioning of all reactors following the nuclear crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant triggered by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami. The tax will be abolished on Dec. 30 when the 5-year renewal period ends, Sato said. Fukushima will become the first prefecture hosting nuclear power plants in Japan to abolish the nuclear fuel tax. Anonymous Coward User ID: 27889854 Sweden 11/19/2012 11:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | TEPCO sets up expert committee to screen procurement costs Tokyo Electric Power Co., struggling to turn its business around following the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant disaster, established a committee of outside experts on Monday to reinforce the utility's efforts to reduce sourcing costs for materials and expenses for building facilities. The three-member committee is headed by Sakon Uda, who worked at a major U.S. consulting firm and served as a member of the secretariat for the Diet-appointed panel investigating the Fukushima disaster. With the help of the committee and through other efforts, TEPCO has said that it will aim to cut 100 billion yen in annual expenses in addition to around 3.37 trillion yen in costs it has pledged to cut over the 10 years through fiscal 2021. Waterbug (OP) User ID: 1295673 United States 11/19/2012 11:40 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | [snip] With the severe damage already having taken place in both reactors, there is a chance that additional steam tubes could rupture during this experimental attempt to restart unit two which could lead to a major disaster. Such an incident could result in billions of dollars in damages in one of the wealthiest areas in the country. The property/housing in the 10 mile Evacuation Zone around San Onofre is worth over $200 billion. This area would become permanently contaminated with hot spots going out far beyond this as can be seen by recent reports out of Japan. However, the nuclear industry has been legally protected from economic damages with the Price-Anderson Act that limits damages payments to a maximum of $12.6 billion. As is known by the general public, there is a 99% chance of a major earthquake hitting Southern California in the next 30 years or less. What is less generally known is that US Geological Survey experts in July of 2011 stated in a state hearing that they did not know whether or not California’s reactors were capable of withstanding the largest possible earthquakes. This dangerous game of nuclear roulette and the hidden economics is at the core of why San Onofre should never be run again. |
