Quoting: Anonymous Coward 241462 First, I saw a headline the other day on GLP which said 60% of Americans can't even afford an unexpected expense of $1000. Well, I am in that 60%. In fact, my fridge is pretty empty just before payday. So, I ask... How do I prepare for disaster? Many say buy silver! Buy Gold! Stock up on dry goods! Get a gun! Buy lots of ammo! Well... I don't even have the extra $$ to get grow lights to grow some tomato plants. I am screwed! When I was super poor...In order to get items I really needed I would skip non essential bills for one month...and then make them up by paying more every month until I caught up...sux I know...but that's how I did it. |

That's why I pick up a couple of essentials every time I get paid. Like water purification tablets and canned goods. For me, it's all about surviving the first few weeks and coming up with a long term plan once I know what the situation requires. I don't want to looting a grocery store and have someone shoot me because I'm carrying out the last case of bottled water or get my ass kicked by a group of thugs who're taking everything they can get in the chaos. |
