Re: 2 Grand Burning A Hole In My Pocket.
unexpected dental work can eat up that 2 grand. Not sure I'd spend it.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2926765

Yeah, and I'm due for a checkup/cleaning. My dentist is sadistic. Last time I had a cavity he JAMMED his f'n little pick right into it and asked 'did that hurt?'

He better tie my hands down if he tries that again.

I have dental insurance though so at most it would be a few hundred I would have to cover.

Loan me $500 until March. I'll spend it on a bed. Been sleepin on an air matress for months, and now it went flat and wont hold air... so, now I'm on the floor. I can't free up enough money to get a bed, no matter how hard I try. I'm sore all the time and can't get enough sleep. Makes me ill at work.

Anyways, I can return it in March with some interest!

Pay off your small debts and then use the rest to "pay it forward" as a little experiment. It never ceases to amaze me what kind of returns come to me after investing in a selfless act of kindness.
 Quoting: bitterscroll 1332531

I like your idea of paying it forward, seeing that I wasn't expecting this money at all.

Thanks bitterscroll

Alcohol, tobacco, and firearms! The BEST return on your investment!

I rarely drink. I rarely smoke tobacco. And I have no firearm.

But, many other people DO! You don't have to consume them yourself, but, they give you something VERY VALUABLE TO OTHERS!

Barter time!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3846471

Great point. I'm just not so sure it's ever going to come down to barter time. Not in a Mad Max type scenario anyways.

Yesterday I received 2 thousand dollars unexpectedly.

It's not money I was counting on at all.

What should I do with it? 1dunno1

If I received $2000.00 and didn't need it for anything I would plan a nice little trip...I'd go to Maine and enjoy the fall colors and eat good food and drink good booze...but a Rtrip somewhere would be a nice thing to do for yourself.

Vacation of a nice duration is gonna cost. $2k would give a few nice days. :)
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1462274

Honestly that's the first thing I thought about doing. I was planning a trip to Disney this year but I'm waiting till my daughter gets a little older so things will be a little more manageable (single parent of 2). So I'll probably do that next year. Plus I already had money set aside for that. Maine is awesome but I don't have 4 wheel drive.

I hear ya need it up there! If ya wanna get there from here! chuckle

Add it to your emergency fund, or if it's fully funded with at least a years worth of expenses...then put it in the blow money fund...assuming you are debt free...if you have any debt then put it there...
 Quoting: BRIEF

WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look, the only purpose of money is to make MORE MONEY, but if you don't have an emergency backup, now's a great time to start one.

If I was you, I'd learn to get used to having a cash stash that you NEVER TOUCH. Why is it that people feel the need to get rid of every dollar they come into contact with? It's stupid and that attitude will keep you broke.
