I find that worrying too.

OP, are you a single parent? A single mother, perhaps? Is that why you are so afraid of bureaucrats in suits and don't fight back? This is the case for far too many women, in this country as in many others, notwithstanding our supposed 'advances' in women's rights.

It just didn't seem reasonable to me that a father would take this crap lying down, unless he were too bombed out on drugs to notice - especially if he's paying the bill for those shoes. People can't just attach things to your property, let alone to your child, and get away with it. Are you on any psych prescriptions that are making you so strangely passive?

hey OP sorry if this has been discussed already and i mean no disrespect but is your child (what they would consider) on the heavy side? i hate even asking that because of what a discrace it is that someone would label a child that way. but i was looking into this and it seem sall the different programs to monitor what they consider "obese" children requires the use of a monitor that contains a pedometer but also seems very invasive. the cost of these were around 90.00 each which would be consistent with the price threat.

also last year at our school i found out my kids were in a flouride treatment program at school. when i went in and threw a fit they said something was sent home and showed me the paper. it stated the info about the program but had one box to check that said "if you dont want your child participating in this program please check box and return". well how many kids do you think actually got that paper to their parents? i mean my kids are both pretty responsible about bringing this stuff home for young guys and i didnt see one for either of my 2 youngest sons. so how many do you think are in that program by default without parents knowledge. seemed a little shady to me.

Whether I'm a single parent or not has nothing to do with how you handle a situation like this.
Running out of the house like a flaming idiot up to the school and raising hell will not accomplish anything in the long run.

Passive and afraid are two adjectives that have never been used to describe me, sorry. Psych meds???? Really?? If I did as some have suggested and went to the school raising hell I'd probably be carried away and put on them against my will tho and I'll pass on that.

I am however a patient person and one should never confuse patient with passive.

I'd like to make a comment as a parent who knows what it's like to fear for the safety of your kids. It's such a delicate balance between protecting them and not letting your own worries hamper their ability to have a happy childhood. If I'd experienced what you did with the little girl in your town who died, I very well might feel differently, but right now I'm wary of any tracking devices being placed on my children, especially without my permission (I'm very, very sorry for what you, your community and the little girl's family went through. I can't even imagine how hard that was).

However, I think parents tracking their own children is a different issue from the one presented here. In this case the child had a device put permanently on his shoe without the parent's approval or consent...I wouldn't be okay with that no matter what, even if it was only a pedometer.

I'll stick up for you on this, OP. Marching into the school screaming with your hair on fire has the exact opposite effect of the one you want. Either they'll avoid you completely or push back hard, but there will be no cooperation or discussion after that. There's an old southern saying: "you catch more flies with honey than vinegar." Essentially, do some research, ask some questions, come prepared with a basic idea of your rights in this situation and then go to the school and request a meeting. If they write you off after that, go do the same thing at the district office/superintendent's office, then at a school board meeting, then notify the press, etc.

I'm not saying that this mom shouldn't be upset and make a stink, just that she'll be much more likely to get what she wants if she keeps it together and goes to the school without screaming and finger pointing (as tempting as that may be).

Well, yes it does have a lot to do with how you handle things, not least because it affects how other people regard you, whether or not they admit it. The double standard is still alive and well, even in America. But a lawyer would do just as well as a husband with facing down a school board. "Suits' still try to run all over women alone and think they can get away with it. Cops will do it to you also and of course, criminals, who might not think of bothering you unless you were alone. It's true all over the world and has been throughout history. You may as well try to deny that the sun sets in the evenings.

You don't have to 'run out of the house' in hysterics. You simply say, 'no' and that's that. If you did not get a consent form to sign and were unaware of these proceedings, you nicely and quietly take that shoe to the school and say, ' please, get this crap off of my child's shoe.' What they did was illegal. Let them pick some other guinea pig for their little experiments, a willing one. If you haven't done this already, it is because they have somehow spooked you. If you're dithering over this, it's because you won't acknowledge that's just what they succeeded in doing. But anger has its constructive uses as a motivator, so long as you retain control, when you can't find within yourself any other.

Dont they do that to Animals in the Wild. They Capture them in a Trap or Drug them and attach some kind of a tracking device or Identification number tag on them before they release them again.


They say they do it for the same reason, to track their movements....
