Re: <<Advancing Bird Flu-H5N1...Now following MERS and Ebola approaching PANDEMICS>>>
There are some new insights into the case fatality rates of the current Ebola situation that are alarming to say the least.

Professor Niman as usual analyses the information that has been formally reported and again shows their glaring defects in accuracy and worst still, the real figures are so much more dire that the formal figures indicate.

Again, until our appointed leaders in the WHO and similar associated organizations get their act together, they continue to erode our confidence in what they are telling us, and worse still is what they are doing or rather not doing, in response to the real situation as it actually is.

The gaps are frighteningly obvious to any that are at least in some way informed.

Break...

The low frequency of recovered cases among the live Ebola cases in Liberia highlights the problems associated with the lack of beds. Most of the identified cases are in the community, posing a threat of further spread. Moreover, WHO has estimated that the true number of Ebola cases is 2-4 times the reported numbers, suggesting 1000-3000 additional cases were not being treated and were further spreading the virus in Liberia, in addition to such cases in Sierra Leone and possibly Guinea.

The absence of reports on recovered Ebola cases in WHO reports is glaring. Although they have removed the claim of a 47% survival rate from their website, the number of recovered cases should be include in updates, including road map reports.

Moreover, Zaire ebolavirus (see list here) and influenza H5 envelope genes (see list here) share a 18 BP region of identity, raising the possibility of recombination between the two negative sense RNA viruses. The identity in H5 traces back to the first H5N1 sequences, from a chicken in Scotland in 1959, although most of the H5 identities are in low path H5, which is transported and transmitted by waterfowl, including waterfowl in Africa.

The current Ebola outbreak is near the Rift Valley and Lake Victoria, regions with significant biodiversity and potential co-infections and recombination.

I do not understand the point of this post.

The other diseases fizzled out and nothing happened globally.
Are you just trying to keep this alive for some credit or something?

Or is this post to remind everyone how they overreacted before?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 59409631

Thank you for your post above.

It raises a couple of matters that are relevant.

Perhaps a failing of mine but maybe I should take the time occasionally to reiterate some of the things that this thread has dealt with over Time.

Its evident from the post above that its author is probably a relatively new reader here and hasnt had the opportunity to absorb all the information that regular followers and valued contributors had shared.

In relation to the comment "other diseases fizzled out".

Well yes they did and continue to do so, its actually known as burning out,to be specific, but no matter, it is the nature of organisms such as those we talk about here, to vary themselves in their evolutionary processes so that at some point they can multiply and propagate themselves as a species, the same way all species attempts to do.

Our problem is that these particular species of lifeforms are pathogens to us and cause illness and in extreme cases death, hence our interest in those specific organisms.

Those that you identify as having burnt out are indeed still very present in the environment in reservoirs where they continue to mutate and evolve.

In time we will see recurring events where they will re-emerge and again present humanity with a fresh challenge.

This is exactly what the world is witnessing right at this time with the increasing spread and destruction that Ebola is currently responsible for.

It too has previously burnt itself out before it caused significant damage, but this new strain has evolved and is proving itself to be a very dangerous and deadly menace for humanity to have to fight.

At present we are losing this battle and it is going to be some time before we can hope as a society to regain the upper hand against Ebola.

Indeed the frightening forecasts coming from some of the braver who are informed are warning of fatal outcomes in the order of figures exceeding a million souls, and that is an exceedingly scary thought to think about.

The comment about "keeping the topic alive" for some sort of personal reward is well to say the least what I personally find to be quite unsavory and insulting, but I will put the comment into a category that has been made without adequate appreciation of what we have been doing on this thread.

I truly wish all of these matters weren't in the realm of quite important issues to all humans and that there would be nothing to be concerned with.

That would be a satisfying thing to experience, however its not the case and I choose to try to be helpful, bringing relevant and accurate information to a forum where it helps and is appreciated.

I know beyond doubt that all the other contributors here have equally felt that they too were doing good works whenever they offered their highly valued inputs to this thread, their works are of those from people who care for other people and are motivated by the highest of ideals.

They are highly prized and valued motivations coming from the very best of society and I for one will always go on the record offering my greatest admiration, respect and recognition for those that do make any form of genuine effort.

I hope that you stay familiar with this thread, it is informative and relevant.

Perhaps you too will come across some relevant and important information that if you choose to share it with us here might make a valuable difference in some persons life.

Cheers

I am thinking out loud here, maybe Im being a bit too paranoid.

Lets see...

A) Baxter's release of live H5N1

B)H3N2V, very suspicious circumstances re patient zero.

C) Saudi SARS. First seen in Jordan but then burns out.
Re-emerges in the Saudi Peninsular., where it is centered on massive numbers of international visitors. No real reservoir ever discovered and no certainty regarding vectors.

C-i) Saudi's direct interference" with the WHO???and ors.

D) China, H7N9, no specific reservoirs detected, no specific vector or patient zero.

E) China internationally chided for H5N1 experimentation in inappropriate labs.

Rumors...

MH-370 and bio-hazardous consignment .

MH-17 world leaders in virology and micro, on board to an international AIDS conference.

And while we're at it, the absolute lack of anything coming out of the US in relation to both these "disasters", even though there must have been US nationals affected!!!

Very unusual for them to be SO silent!!!

Ukraine's geographic location and its military situation.

ISIS conflict????

Ebola, Marburg, H5N1, etc...

Specificity of natural protections inherent against the above, in certain race origins???

Eugenics?

How am I doing?

Pretty good for a conspiracy web site, eh??

Maybe this buys me a projectile with my name on it?

And to think, I have been debating volunteering to MSF to help in WA.

I had plenty to say about the reckless and out of control ego that Koaka possessed when he let that information about his unbelievably derelict activities.

He should be stripped of his tenure and all funding and be required to work under strict supervision forever.

He might be brilliant as a scientist, but his judgement can and should be compared to that of a totally insane megalomaniac.

He and the work he was doing exposed the entire human population to unimaginable threat and from all appearances he was incapable of recognizing this.

All the hallmarks of a genuine MAD scientist, and I say that with complete appropriateness and sincerity.

At the very least he should have to serve real jail time, perhaps that might give him time to contemplate his utter stupidity, contempt for humanity and his totally out of control ego.

Re: <<Advancing Bird Flu-H5N1...Now following MERS and Ebola approaching PANDEMICS>>>
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The idea of the Ebola virus becoming airborne is not far-fetched and its ability to enter cells that line the trachea and lungs has been shown under controlled laboratory conditions, a Purdue University virus expert says.

David Sanders, an associate professor of biological sciences who has studied the Zaire strain of Ebola virus that is responsible for the current outbreak in West Africa, says the possibility of the virus becoming airborne should not be discounted.

"It is not unprecedented for a virus to change its mode of transmission," he says. "Ebola does share some of the characteristics of airborne viruses like influenza, and we should not disregard the possibility of it evolving into something that could be transmitted in this way."

A research team led by Sanders and collaborators from the University of Iowa established that the Zaire strain of Ebola virus could enter the epithelial cells that line the human airway in a paper published in the Journal of Virology in 2003. The experiment used a pseudotyped virus, which was built with the Ebola virus envelope proteins, or outer shell. The inside of the virus was that of a retrovirus to prevent replication of the Ebola virus and to more easily separate the functions of the outer and inner portions of the virus, he said.

"We were studying at the cellular level how the virus enters cells and showed it could enter human airway epithelial cells," Sanders says. "However, there are many factors beyond its ability to enter these cells that influence how a virus is transmitted. To be airborne it must be present on tiny droplets from a cough or sneeze and must be able to live outside of the body for a certain length of time. This is not how the virus is currently known to spread, but it is evidence that it has some of the necessary components for respiratory transmission."

Sanders, who also has expertise in the transmission of viruses from animal to animal and animals to humans, also points to the influenza virus as an example of how a virus can switch from one mode of transmission to another. In birds, its natural host, influenza virus infects the intestinal tract and is transmitted by feces. In mammals, such as humans, it has respiratory route of transmission. Only a small number of mutations are required to alter the host and mode of transmission, he says.

ebola already carries flu traits and eadily attaches itself to the trachia and lungs and proven it can stay alive for upto 90 mins in larger droplets ,in colder climet longer it was just amatter of time befor h5n1 found a way with a gene mutation recombining with ebola this is the big boost it needed

Yes, thank you, I did read the appropriate section of that report.

I had previously seen it also.

One would have to say that its a work of incredible insight and has managed to select very likely scenarios, and come up with likely outcomes or that it could/is/ has been an instruction manual to be followed!!!

It is definitely thought provoking, especially considering is origins!

In birds, its natural host, influenza virus infects the intestinal tract and is transmitted by feces. In mammals, such as humans, it has respiratory route of transmission. Only a small number of mutations are required to alter the host and mode of transmission, he says.

ebola already carries flu traits and eadily attaches itself to the trachia and lungs and proven it can stay alive for upto 90 mins in larger droplets ,in colder climet longer it was just a matter of time before h5n1 found a way with a gene mutation recombining with ebola this is the big boost it needed

From the final paragraph...

In reality, this outcome is definitely in the realm of not so much "if" these changes ever occur, but much more of the "when" these changes occur, as the article points out.

The matter is then only that a mutated virus can then find a suitable vector to transmit out of the "wild" and into a human host, and, at that time it only needs to find one human host.

From there the H2H transmission becomes very commonplace because human populations are in general terms are very dense making ongoing transmission rather routine for that virus.

This is when we see a pandemic occurring.

Ebola, right at this point in time, as far as we know, hasn't obtained all the mutations that are talked about in the above article, yet we can see just how deadly it has become already.

And with each new infection in this current epidemic, it has a fresh opportunity to find those mutations and evolve to become completely H2H transmissible.

When this happens we will witness an explosion and spread that will defy most peoples comprehension.

And it will kill millions in a very short time frame, probably measured in days rather that the weekly that we are counting at present.

Make no mistake about it, this outbreak is already well on its way to becoming a full blown epidemic, if it isn't already that, and the mutated viruses could already easily be present and spreading amongst us in pockets that arent yet apparent.

It is sad to have to note that we are currently witnessing an event that will be known in future history as the greatest killing disease that has hit mankind in the last hundred years.

Just how many will perish is yet to determined.

But it will be significant.

We do not have control of the spread of this outbreak yet,and sadly could be many months away from having anything available to begin to bring this epidemic under control.

Dont expect the commentary from the likes of the CDC or the WHO to be telling us this, they will always downplay the situation so as not to create panic.

Rather they choose to let the daily news reports do that and for us to evolve our thinking and interpretation of what we being told in fragmented snippets, but with nothing to link all the information together to form some sort of complete picture of the real situation.

The situation is already extremely bad and its getting much worse on a daily basis.
