I totally agree. I witnessed the same thing.

ummmmmm whats going on with the magnetosphere?
i mean, what is affecting it right now? i don't remember any significant solar flares...i wouldn't expect any C's to do that and don't even know if the recent ones were even earth directed. so what gives?

You might want to look at what our sun has been up to the past few days. Wow is all I can say.

The sun has been incredibly active the last couple of days. Maybe that is what is causing the magnetosphere to do that even though they weren't directly aimed at us. I know they can swirl around back at us.

24 hours with minor to severe storm periods at high latitudes. The
increased activity was associated with periods of sustained
southward IMF Bz and increased IMF Bt associated with intermittent
solar sector boundary changes.

Geophysical Activity Forecast: The geomagnetic field is
expected to be quiet to unsettled on day one (6 April) due to the
weak CME that was associated with the filament eruption that
occurred on 02 April. The field is expected to return to quiet
levels on day two (7 April), then be at quiet to unsettled levels
due to a coronal hole high speed stream becoming geoeffective on day
three (8 April).

Kp=3

The solar wind did show a gradual increase this morning to near 500 km/s and combined with a south tilting Bz component of the interplanetary magnetic field, geomagnetic activity at very high latitudes did increase. Visible Aurora is likely at high latitudes.

Aurora Watch: The Kp index continues to rise with the help of a high speed solar wind stream now near 550 km/s. The Bz has been pointing south at times and minor geomagnetic storming at high latitudes may soon be possible.

geomagnetic field - UNSETTLED

A minor G1 Geomagnetic Storm (Kp=5) did take place due to an elevated solar wind stream. The Kp index did drop below the minor storm threshold, however visible aurora will still be possible at very high latitudes

Hi there,

I've been looking for a list of the many sun research satellites and was wondering if anyone could help.

I can only recall the more known ones like SOHO and Stereos but i know there are alot more. Most of them seemed launched within the decade as well too. so alot of the data and 'science' developing from the recent research and tools seems to indicate that all sorts of new territory are being reached.
