They checkerboarded the horizon.Magnetosphere is in trouble, our geodynamo slows down anymore and we're gonna have a particle party I totally agree. I witnessed the same thing. |

Quoting: double_frick i mean, what is affecting it right now? i don't remember any significant solar flares...i wouldn't expect any C's to do that and don't even know if the recent ones were even earth directed. so what gives? You might want to look at what our sun has been up to the past few days. Wow is all I can say. [link to stereo.ssl.berkeley.edu] |

Maybe that is what is causing the magnetosphere to do that even though they weren't directly aimed at us. I know they can swirl around back at us. |

The solar wind has shown a gradual increase today to near 400 km/s. This gradual increase is expected to continue due to a solar sector boundary crossing. Minor geomagnetic activity will be possible at high latitudes. |

The increased activity was associated with periods of sustained southward IMF Bz and increased IMF Bt associated with intermittent solar sector boundary changes. Geophysical Activity Forecast: The geomagnetic field is expected to be quiet to unsettled on day one (6 April) due to the weak CME that was associated with the filament eruption that occurred on 02 April. The field is expected to return to quiet levels on day two (7 April), then be at quiet to unsettled levels due to a coronal hole high speed stream becoming geoeffective on day three (8 April). |

Unsettled levels are expected on days two and three (08-09 April) with a chance for isolated active levels due to the anticipated arrival of the CME from Region 1450 and the recurrent coronal hole high speed stream. The latest model run shows the CME to be potentially geoeffective with an estimated speed of 845 km/s and is expected to arrive late on the 08th/early on the 09th of April. |

The cloud was propelled in our direction by a solar filament, which erupted on April 5th (movie). |

Visible Aurora is likely at high latitudes. Aurora Watch: The Kp index continues to rise with the help of a high speed solar wind stream now near 550 km/s. The Bz has been pointing south at times and minor geomagnetic storming at high latitudes may soon be possible. |

ACE solar wind observations indicated the continued presence of a coronal hole high-speed stream (CH HSS) with speeds in the 499 to 614 km/s range. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit reached high levels during the period Geophysical Activity Forecast: Geomagnetic field activity is expected to be at quiet to unsettled levels on day 1 (15 April) with a chance for active levels due to persistent CH HSS effects. Activity is expected to decrease to mostly quiet levels during days 2 - 3 (16 - 17 April) as the CH HSS subsides |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 502821 United States 04/15/2012 01:37 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hi there, I've been looking for a list of the many sun research satellites and was wondering if anyone could help. I can only recall the more known ones like SOHO and Stereos but i know there are alot more. Most of them seemed launched within the decade as well too. so alot of the data and 'science' developing from the recent research and tools seems to indicate that all sorts of new territory are being reached. Thank you |
