Kroger meat is poison | |
Sammie User ID: 2220559 United States 03/15/2012 08:42 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Nice. I am buying the meat for me and my family number one. If I had the money I would buy grass fed calls from local farms, but I don't. Yes, some of us have to buy from local grocery stores. I have actually started hunting, and will now get my meat from deer, turkey, duck, morning dove and rabbit that I hunt myself. Where do you buy your meat? I have kids, rent and multiple bills to pay. I grow all my own vegetables and herbs. I can and store them for use during the winter and don't buy any from the grocery. But, from time to time I do buy beef from the grocery because I run out before I can go hunt. Do you have access to a local butcher shop or even a better grocery store such as publix? Personally I'm leary of all of it but if I recall correctly Kroger did not deny pink slim in meat (nor confirm) but publix said they did NOT use any pink slim nor buy from any distributors who did. Just a thought. When I opened the pack it smelled so I soaked it in cold water with peroxide and salt then rinsed and repeat. Then I ran cold water over it and cut off the parts that still had a slight oder. I boiled it for broth for 2 hours. Do you think it is safe to use the broth. I gave my dog some of the chicken and she so far is fine. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1253249 If it rots....at least it's real. Yeah but will we get sick if we eat it. is it possible to boil the bacteria out of it. i read somewhere that if you drink a shot of vinegar before you it, it will destroy any bacteria lingering in spoiled meat. anyone know if this is true. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 7570540 United States 03/15/2012 08:48 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You all do know that when you first cut into a piece of meat, it is a darker purplish-red color. It does brighten as it is exposed to air. Any chef should know that. If it is brownish or off-smelling, it is old. That's one of the reasons why a lot of processors steam pasteurize their meat to kill the microbes rather than use irradiation. While irradiation kills all the microbes, it also leaves it that sickish purple color which people don't tend to like. There isn't the color issue with steam pasteurization. |

Key is cutting roast or steak into small cubes and then placing in freezer to get meat firm. it also helps to freeze the food processor blade. Pulse until it's chopped but still slightly chunky. Place it into a bowl and refrigerate until you're ready to use it. 2 Always demand Grass fed Beef. Feeding cows grains is unnatural not to mention most of the grains they are fed is GMO. Avoid chicken unless you can get some organic or local grown one. All commercial chickens are fed GMO. |

Quoting: Mister Obvious Thread: MATRIX-style Vertical Chicken Farming.....unreal.... I did no meat for 8 yrs without much inconvenience and that was before all the veggie friendly options that are available now. I only managed the pure vegan route for a little over a year before I broke. Vegan is much more difficult than no meat. There is dairy and dairy derivatives in nearly everything!! ..... Label reading is a must (which I still do and encourage everyone to do as well), and then you'll need a damn chemical dictionary to figure out what all that crap is. Of course the less ingredients the better, but some simple things such as cassinate (spelling?), are milk derivatives and found in everything crackers, pasta, bread....the list goes on and on. But I dont mean to discourage but rather give you a heads up my experience. Another consideration is going veggie and if you find the vegan thing too difficult, as I did (I LOVE dairy), then upgrade your dairy standards. I'm very picky about my dairy distributors. Stoney Farms... Brown Cow.. Seven Stars... they make fantastic yogurt ... full fat too! YUM! The only way to go with dairy, imo. So sick of looking at 800 varieties of zero fat yogurt at the stores...... yuk. It's like drinking non-alcoholic beer. why bother? The Vegan diet can be very dangerous...especially for a woman, because they have issues with Iron deficiency even with a normal diet...you literally have to graze all day like cattle to get enough nutrition from a vegan diet... grazing is actually the way the metabolism functions best. Contrary to the old 3 meals a day concept, our bodies function much better (insulin levels stable) by eating 6-8 small meals every 2-3 hours. However, I do understand your warning about proper nutrients. But considering the average person's diet (not making reference to MO diet, but the average american......how could it be any worse)? As far s nutrition goes, there are tons of sites that allow you to log your food intake and it calculates your daily intake vs daily needs for both nutrients and calories and will make suggestions on what foods to add or decrease depending on gaps. With veggies and vegans, proper food combos become important, like eating brown rice with beans for a complete protein verses simply eating beans alone. A kid, maybe about ten years old walked to the table where his dad was sitting with a huge salad. I was impressed because it had all types of fresh veggies on it. His father had come to the table ahead of him and sat a large plate of macaroni and cheese at his sons place. The kid put the salad next to the mac and cheese, and sat down.
