Seriously why must the only people who comment on this thread have the brain and experiences of a twelve year old. If you have never tried weed stay out of this debate.I can and have driven on different types of cannabis and I can tell you there are some medicinal kinds where you can easily drive and others that are pure couchlock. You as an adult should be able to distinguish when you can not drive anymore. This is just another example of the government overstepping its boundaries on what they dont know and forcing their will on us even more.
 Quoting: Yourmom 1302027

100% correct....If you are to stoned to drive, don't drive. It's all common sense. This is a moral thing, and not something we need more retarded laws for. "If your to stoned don't drive". That simple. We do not need the tards in charge, obviously without any common sense, make more stupid laws. We just need common sense, thats whats wrong with this world, where did it all go? Maybe we can make a law that can test for that!

What part of this do you not get people?

Have they took away your ability to reason naturally?

I think I'll drive to my neighborhood headshop. I need screens and pipe cleaners. If you're scared to be on the road with a "stoner" behind the wheel, stay home.

I'll brb.

It's driving while impaired.....same as being drunk.

 Quoting: Burt Gummer

I've been driven around by stoned people in my deep dark youth, and can honestly say that they always seemed particularly attentive and on the ball!?

One guy refused to have any conversations or distractions at all he was zoned into driving so much... wtf
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5052927

I agree people drive much better when they're stoned, first off they usually slow down a bit. They're also slightly paranoid about being hassled by the LEO's so they become extra cautious about their driving. I agree with Bill Hicks when he says it should be mandatory. I see all these street racer types mashing around all day, if they started smoking they would sell the raced out honda and buy a lowrider.

you know the line "lowrider don't use much gas, cause the lowrider don't drive too fast".

Re: Stoned driving epidemic puts wrinkle in pot debate
ive been driving and smoking blunts every day for 1 1/2 years

never crashed, never hit a car. i have never felt 'out of control' or scared that i may hit something. i am more cautious driving.

I choose not to drink alc, but the times I have gotten drunk I would NEVER drive. that is fucked up, you honestly lose control of your motor skills.

But I also smoke a lot of weed so Im basically high 24/7. or at least most of the hours I'm awake.

It's understandable that people who don't smoke would get high driving, freak out or feel uncomfortable with the high, then lose focus on the road and crash up. shit happens.

but driving high is =/= to driving drunk and I say that from experience.

If if you people have ever drivin stoned you would know that your driving skills improve. Its not the same as dving drunk. Drunk and stoned are totally different. Stop spewing off shit if you have never done it. There have even been studies on the effects of marijuana and driving. Its more likly to get into an accident while diving sober; and that is only if you are an experienced smoker who can hold his/hers shit together. This is nothing but anti marijuana legalization propaganda. And its working on all of you.

always driven when im high and always seen improvements, less speed, more care and attention. its still a risk, but driving is a risk we all take.
The one thing i see of evidence for this, is when im driving sober i can sing along to the radio. When im high and driving, im concentrating on the road. i can't sing a long to the radio for more than a couple of lines cos the road takes my attention. I miss conversations people are having in the car cos im paying so much attention to the road. Obviously its hard to prove any of it, but im just going by how i feel when im driving. I think it may be a bit daunting at first driving high and you obviously shouldn't until you feel comfortable enough too, and it could also be a thing of getting used to it first. but then how much is down to fear of being caught, fear causes mistakes, fear caused by its illegality. Just some thoughts of mine.

if sooooo many people smoke weed now, and if smoking makes driving worse, where are all the high people causing crashes?

I think the real danger is the government itself and the greed of the public servants. They are always trying to come up with new ways to extort more money from the innocent, so they can fund their lifestyles with other peoples sweat, they are nothing but parasites.

If you want to ban something maybe we could start with governments since they kill more people than anything else. then we could ban tolls they are real killers, I will provide evidence, and also noticed that your claims are just that, claims since you have not provided any evidence to prove what you say is correct, that if somebody smokes a joint, it impairs their abilities in any way. You are just saying that because you are probably paid to.

We should also stop putting poison in the drinking water.

treat them the same as drunk drivers.
 Quoting: Burt Gummer

disagree

there is no crime in driving under the influence (alcohol and pot)

there is a crime when you do so and you cause destruction and damage
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9820899

although for the sake of preventive safety, i would argue that drunk driving laws are a sensible proactive measure. although i dont like making crimes out of things that are not really crimes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not just driving, it's heavy machinery, certain types of equipment, that's why most companies have random drug testing. You cannot be allowed to operate things that can KILL others while your ability is impaired. I can't believe I have to explain that.
 Quoting: Keats

I agree. I wouldn't want to work with anyone of they were "high" on anything. Now at construction sights they'll test you in the morning before work. The again after work. If your tests show an increase during the day, you're fired. No increase, no problem. That's only in the states that legalized medical marijuana.

I can't believe Keats doesn't understand what freedom means. Let's say you just had a fight with your girlfriend, and that's causing you to be very distracted. Should that be illegal too?

Should the government monitor your sleep to make sure you're never tired behind the wheel?

Keats just wants the government to be his nanny, because apparently he can't figure out how to run his own life.

Here's a novel idea...Most DUI's aren't determined by Breathalyzer alone, in fact that's usually the LAST step in a field sobriety test to confirm the person is impaired. Often if you pass the various physical tests, even after admitting having drank a few drinks, they don't even bother to test B.A.C. and let you go on your merry way.

Why don't they use the same tests they use for drunks (walk a straight line, touch your finger to your nose, test eye reaction time) on people suspected of marijuana use?

I have dealt with the dipshits that smoke blunts and go for joy rides only to wreck into innocent people that did nothing to deserve their demise. If you are impaired from drinking, smoking, taking of methamphetamines, anything like that even if it is prescription you should NOT be able to drive anything that could endanger another persons life. If definately should be a crime punishable by prison terms.

here's you one for court on being arrested on "marijuana" charges...IF this -other- law apply s in your state...in the state where WE are, they passed a law that states"" -All Laws- MUST be written in -English-"...Marijuana is a Spanish word and not an English word...therefore the latter law cancels out the "marijuana" spanish word used in the previous laws as a -conflict of interest-...and cannabis is a latin name,lol...therefore all previous laws with the word "marijuana" have to be rewritten and showing the plant in question in English phases,lol....thats if you have that other law on the books...readup

I was the biggest stoner in college. The only time I was too high to drive is once waiting on a four=way stop sign to turn green. That was some good shit. I may have been drinking then too so that's probably why. Once I realized what I was doing I was laughing so hard I had to pull over anyway.

Bullshit dude! I NEVER go below the damn speed limit it pisses me off when others do. Shit i find myself speeding passed others because there lame ass is in my way. But then again I'm confident in my driving skills, Ive gotten into ONE wreck before and it wasn't even my fault, we sued and won the case.

If there going below the speed limit there probably fucking illegal or have something else to worry about besides being stoned.

Keep living in fear of your government, your god, and your own shadow. Those that succumb to authority are not natural leaders, but rather followers.

What about someone who is drinking a diet pop, chewing aspartame gum, and smoking a cigarette gets behind the wheel in a brainwave suppressed state? PROSECUTE THEM LIKE ALCOHOLIC IMPAIRED DRIVERS. Haha, what about using prescription medicine while driving? Anti depressants? Prozac?

Some of you retards need to fathom the bigger picture.

So anyone not wearing sunglasses on a particular sunny day, or people who flash their high beams at you in the middle of the night should also be arrested and detained for possibly maybe causing a crash.

No radios or on-board computer systems(including police men) should be allowed in cars. Also no singing or speaking while driving. No whining children or crying babies as all these things can impair your ability to focus 100% on the road and drive safely.
