A mole in my backyard behaving very friendly...is this fairly common?

I have a raccoon that does somewhat the same.He started coming to the back porch stealing the ferrel cats food.Their food is on the outdoor table under the umberella so it doesnt rain on it.I have a night vision camera out there so I see when he comes to the porch.If the bowl is empty he will sit on the table and wait.Once I open the door he sits on the top step and waits until fill the bowl and go back toward the door.
The ferrel cats just lay in their house or on the grill and watch him eat.Sometimes he will hide under the chair and peek at me so cute.The squirrels stay in the trees over the deck because of the cats.Even the birds will steal the cat food and the cats do nothing but watch.Animals are very different than in the past

Other them like 2 posts. I guess no one in here has a fairway lawn and spends a lot of money and time to keep it perfect. Some invader like that would not last long in my yard. And my neighbors would thank me too. My whole block keeps immaculate lawns and spends time on it. In the front yards anyways. Everyone along the block keeps the parking strip green, healthy and short like a putting green.
With that said. If I had a lot of acres and not a great lawn, I'd not care.

My lawn is nice and we spend a lot of time using it.I dont care about prefection.All critters are here on earth and they have to end up someplace.I live in a wooded area and I enjoy my animal life much more than I enjoy watching my grass grow.

Yeah, I see now that my post was kinda pissy. I didn't intend to put down lawns.
Your in a wooded area so its normal and good of you to let it roam. Living in the city, if I was up against a green belt, I'd let it do it's thing. That's why cities have green belts.

Depends on the mole. We had one under our patio and he'd poke his nose out all the time. The cat was fascinated by it.

We have very brave chipmunks too. The cat wants to eat them.

I like the name Oscar...Oscar he is.

That is NOT a mole...

It might have rabies.
I have vague memories as a child of killing a gopher with a shoe with my friend and her father because it was acting like that.
We were pretty sure it was rabid.

RABIES

No animal whether it's a Gopher, hamster that has rabies isn't cute.

It is still very friendly and not sick at all. Doing its job pulling dry grass into its hole, and eating it loudly, then comes back to look at me.

Take a picture of it. I like cute things.

Moles are almost totally blind. I had one that lived under my porch. Similar situation to the OP--came very close to me pretty close to daily for a sumer. They are harmless and cute.

Umm...No! Moles can't see well obvioulsy, and if it's actually showing itself then obviously that's not normal either. Think Rabbies Maybe? Call a Vet an Animal Control.


I've got a friendly mole as well, and despite my nazi tactics, consisting of torrents of garden hose water induced mudslides, car exhaust gas attacks, and some random gunfire, the little dickens still wants to live in my yard.
However, he doesn't show his little pointed nose to me, just piles of dirt.

So no, I'd say take heed.

A neighbor is probably practing astral projection based possession of animals on you. Turn some music on and see if any of the vegetation nearby is moving to the music in the breeze.

Moles are blind and dumber than a box of rocks. That's why it seems friendly.

That's definitely not a mole. Looks like a prairie dog. Probably has a tunnel that connects with a larger colony somewhere outside your yard.
