Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12478270 EMSC had a warning notice at the TOP of the page saying it was felt 7 mins ago. But now EMSC has gone down again for me so I can't see the NEW readings coming in. Well, maybe another M6.2 there soon. This happened the other day in Chile and 1 hour later there was a M6.2. |
insertfunnyusername User ID: 16046432 Greece 05/21/2012 11:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | No, it's not. The strongest EQ in Europe, over the last 150 years occurred in Bulgaria. It was a 7.9 in 1904. Do some research and you will find that Bulgaria has a long history of EQs. It is a very seismically active area. Greece had a 8.3 in 1903. Just sayin! Last Edited by insertfunnyusername on 05/21/2012 11:27 PM |

Might Not Have That Luxury.. User ID: 1158517 United States 05/21/2012 11:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just a thought for the "Wake me when it's a 7, 8, 9+ MAG" folk: Depending on location, with a quake of such magnitude, you may not have the luxury of being "woken up" and having time to figure out what's, what. In addition, those who have acted as a watchman of sorts may opt NOT to knock on all doors of the burning building prior to exiting...Many will be too busy getting the heck outta dodge! |

Very true for large earthquakes maybe 8+ can be picked up at stations all over the world, however below 5 mag not always the case, espescially shallow earthquakes. Usgs use data from stations located usually within 100 km from the epicenter when they make the measurement this is sent electronically |
