I mean who doesn't try to pry dead mice out of the mouths of stray cats? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17786851 I'm not for sure if you thought about the "unlikelihood" of this story. How many people are going to try to pry a dead mouse from a cat they've never met? Why would this even occur to him? It seems a bit..."Fabricated." But, go ahead and think that "this guy somehow DESERVED IT" if it makes you feel better. apparently he knew the cat [...]DeBess said it's not clear whether the man was bitten by the mouse or by the cat. The feline died, and its body has been sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for testing. The cat was abandoned in the man's neighborhood about six years ago and stuck around. Yeargain said the man and his family had a lot of contact with it. He was bitten on the hand. "Taking a mouse out of a cat's mouth is probably not a good idea," DeBess said. Quoting: skittle hive Hiss >^-^< That's right! My cats are bringing something in about every night now but as long as they completely finish it up and don't leave a mess of guts on the floor, I haven't tried to throw them - and their meal- back outside. (since I have a cat door, that's a waste of time anyway...) They may be just trying to show me how it's done. If there's blood on the floor in the morning, I clean it up with a little bleach in a spray bottle. But no matter how many times you've heard it over the years, that 'crunching' when they chew them up is still gag-inducing, isn't it? Plague is usually spread by the fleas on rodents, not by the cat eating a rodent. Hanta virus is a concern, if you have a heavy mice or rat infestation and their urine is around, which is where the virus lurks. I lived in north AZ when that was a serious scare - but it was also right after a very bad year for rodent infestations. You definitely want cats when you live in the country here in the Southwest. They keep the mice population down and since snakes eat mice, you won't find them hanging around as much either. Sorry that stupid hippie got sick but it was his own fault. I feed my cats far better than I can feed myself but I'd still not interfere with them keeping their hunting skills sharp. They need those skills for their own survival just as the wiser of us humans, even if we don't prefer meat eating, ought to be learning them also. |
