Quoting: Marax I know there are pople that will say that "old" people always say that about the younger generations music. I can agree with that to a point, but the fact is most of the stuff out there (rap, pop, hip hop) is just shit. Most of them don't write their own lyrics or music. Alot of it is just beats and random noise. They lack band members that have musical talent and the ability to play instruments. Even the singers suck. Either you go to a concert and they have prerecorded, highly processed vocals and just lip sync everything. Or they just sound horrid! Walkin Earth... Breathin Air... Keepin Water... Spittin fire... |

Gun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by making it tougher for sober people to own cars. I'd like to go quietly in my sleep, like grandpa did. Not screaming in terror like the people in the back seat of the car he was driving. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 12654195 United States 06/17/2012 11:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | People seem to dislike drum machines and sequencers a lot, but don't even know what they do, or how to work them. Just because it isn't presented in the way that you are accustomed to does not mean that it isn't music. The fact that there are artists out there who just rehash the same 4 on the floor beat does not mean that music sucks. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 18258144 United States 06/19/2012 10:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes, the music today is awful. This is not a generational thing. Anyone who knows music loves music from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. The music of the 2000's is not real music. It is a corporate creation to sell to children without any taste. Now I read on many blogs that there is still a lot of great music, you just have to look harder. I don't agree. I have listened to many of the underground rock bands and they are nowhere near as good as Guns and Roses or Soundgarden. I do believe that these underground rock bands have talent, but it takes an industry with accomplished song writers and coaches working with these bands for years for them to become great. Unfortunately, these bands will never realize their potential. We need 2 things to happen to get our music back. The music industry finally needs to get burned by their creation, which may yet happen. Cheap and easy usually fails. Secondly, parents need to teach their kids about music and give them the ability to tell the difference between quality and crap. Actually, this applies to almost everything in our society. Our music problem is actually part of an even larger problem. We are living in a cheap, fake world. We have to start standing up to it. Anyway, I digress. In 2010 Bon Jovi was the highest grossing live act in the world. People want quality. If enough do, we will get it again. Here's hoping. |

There are a few services I use now to discover new music but the best one is easily www.earbits.com. Try it and tell me what you think. I hope you like it. |

M-train User ID: 24627049 United States 07/26/2013 07:51 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have to agree. I have asked this question on some of my other music forums about why there are no super bands like in the 60's, 70's, and part of the 80's. I'm speaking of the truly great bands/performers like Queen, Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, David Bowie/Ziggy Stardust, Pink Floyd, etc. Back in the 70's when a really good band was featured on television millions of people viewed them as there were only a few networks back then. This could be said about television stars back then being as popular as movie stars as there were millions of people watching them vs today where there are soo many channels out there that it splits the number of viewers for any given show [unless its a huge hit, like Breaking Bad, Shameless, etc] From what we could figure out is that in the late 90's music got so diversified with soo many genre's, that it spliced music down into too many sub genre's. Also, I can't seem to find any genre that I like. I watched a music festival that was on AXS last week. It was somewhere in the UK, but every band I watched was only mediocre at best. There was no bands that really made me sit up, and take notice. For the record, Elvis, Aloha From Hawaii, still holds the record for the most viewers world wide, for a single performer.
