In the early days of the new world, did not the French own as much land as the British? Did not the French have slaves?

America became a country in 1776, slavery ended in 1865. Not exactly 200 years is it? The slaves were already here when America became a country, their ancesters brought here by French and British slave traders.

What I have a problem with is you saying Americans don't know their own history and are soemhow more evil than Hitler. What allowed America to become a superpower had nothing to do with slavery. Americas superpower status never even began until after WWII. Last time I checked that was 80 years after slavery was abolished. Trying to lay this guilt trip on Americans today is literally the last resort for the scoundrels.

I feel no guilt or responsibility what-so-ever for what ended a century and a half ago. I feel no sense of obligation to try to make amends for what happened a century and a half ago. History is littered with man's inhumanity. The best we can do is to try and learn from it and not repeat it. With that in mind, I'd say that the good ol' U.S. of A. has doon a pretty good job compared to the rest of the world...
