A possible breach of a butane-filled well 1500 feet from Bayou Corne's sinkhole, the size of three football fields, is so "very serious," it has Assumption Parish sheriff and local residents ordered to evacuate worried about a catastrophic explosion, one according to scientists in an Examiner investigation, would be in the range of one and a half B83 thermonuclear (hydrogen) bombs, the most powerful United States weapons in active service.

Excluding secondary oil and gas pipeline and refinery explosions, direct effects of such a single bomb blast in Bayou Corne, fifty miles from Baton Rouge, would include Donaldsonville, Louisiana, according to NUKEMAP simulations showing an H-bomb this size would produce:

"Fire-ball radius: (central orange circle): 0.62 km / 0.39 mi. Maximum size of the nuclear fireball; relevance to lived effects depends on height of detonation.

"Air blast radius: 3.8 km / 2.1 mi (red shaded circle) 20 psi overpressure; heavily built concrete buildings are severely damaged or demolished; fatalities approach 100%

"Air blast radius: 8.93 km / 5.55 mi (gray shaded circle) 4.6 psi overpressure; most buildings collapse; injuries universal, fatalities widespread.

"Thermal radiation radius: 15.18 km / 9.43 mi (outer orange shaded circle) Third-degree burns to all exposed skin; starts fires in flammable materials, contributes to firestorm if large enough."

Note: Butane explosion effects would differ from H-bomb effects two ways: 1) It would take much longer and have insignificant radiation damage; 2) Temperatures reached would be lower, so the fireball, thermal radiation, and air blast radii would be smaller, but all three longer-lasting.

State approves permit for sinkhole relief well

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The state Department of Natural Resources says is has approved a drilling permit for a relief well near a massive sinkhole in Assumption Parish.

DNR Secretary Stephen Chustz says Houston-based Texas Brine Co. will drill into a brine cavern the company owns in the Napoleonville salt dome.

What would/could happen if they drill into one?

Who knows, nobody.

here is the thing...
if, as has been stated, they will empty some/most/all the wells that are active, will the decrease in pressure, and additional mass of water added infuence the stability of the whole dome

the single butane well is bad, 57 more wells in a 1 mile, or less radius, is worse

could decreasing the gas pressure in the wells cause water to seep in (reverse of bubbles out) and erode the dome

it has already been stated that the original well failed pressure test, aka breached
it is at the corner of the dome
it is surrounded with fresh water
fresh water eats the salt

the dome with almost 60 active wells!!!!!

So what are they doing to prevent this explosion ? It looks like they are letting nature take its course(unless I missed something)
Could they concrete entoumbe the salt mine? Or will it eventually just go caboom?

Heh. Guess we're about to find out. Wonder why, with all the equipment they have, it will take 40 days to come up with some answers, and whey they can't use some of their high tech equipment to see what's going on real time.

It was stated in a link somewhere that this explosion would be equal to 1 and a half times of the B83 bomb! Check it out.

Only biased propaganda gets an official pin here. If it is FOR the people and true information, it will never be officially pinned. If it devides, is racist, or plays into the phony left/right busywork, it will get lots of pins. They heavily favor the right wing propaganda here.

It didn't make sense to me that they would empty things. Wouldn't it be better to fill them with sea water rather than have them empty?

If they have a nuke bomb site that was tested i a salt flat underneath much of the region, then during each rain fall the salt will erode away and cause all the land above the salt flats to collapse down upon where the salt used to be, until they opened up a hole and caused water to reach the salt! Morons if you ask me...

So what happened to that spin about them meeting every day and keeping people informed? The people who live there must be so furious.
