They were picked up by a program at the national seismologist that didn’t initially see or report them," Horton explained. “The signal was there but may not have gone above the noise level. "USGS then looked and said, 'Yes, there have been tremors there,' he explained, adding, “USGS likes to use the word ‘tremors’ for quakes.” |

Details of sinkhole’s dimensions emerge: 250% size of earlier reports — One area so deep it exceeded length of measuring rope, nearby ‘bubbling’ — Official: May be ‘rabbit holes’ or cracks in earth [link to enenews.com] Puleeese do not use ENENEWS as an information source. Their numbers for Fukushima radiation were off by more than 10 times. I read some of the japanese TEPCO reports and ENENEWS messed up a lot of information. Arnie Gunderson on the other hand is basically sound. He is a hired gun for the anti-nuclear industry so he puts a negative slant on everything - but he includes caveats on everything that is an interpretation. You need to find a source with salt mining experience who is the equivalent of Arnie Gunderson. According to the following the locals like the mining companies: [link to www.examiner.com] The underground cavern was 140 million cubic feet and 3400 ft below ground. That equates to the sinkhole eventually becoming a conical hole 1200 ft in diameter by 400 ft. deep. That is as bad as it is going to get. There is no reason to expect the nearby salt domes will be affected. Given all the above ground trash that go sucked in the hole it will probably be less than 1000 ft. in diameter. Oh, the hole is one mile southwest of the intersection of 69 and 70 and is not visible on Google Maps yet. Last Edited by Poriwoggu on 08/15/2012 11:56 AM Poriwoggu |

Uranium is also a "naturally occuring radioactive material" as well...doesn't mean you want to include it in your rock collection. I think they use the term to try and play down the nasty hazards of having the shit in the ground where your water comes from. Radiation of Yellowcake (refined but not enriched uranium) 6.77×10-7 ci/gm. or 25049 bq/gm. Depleted uranium is half that. Radiation of NORM is .05 to 1000 bq/gm. So if we assume the NORM was 200 bq/gm. that is 1/50 as bad as depleted uranium ammunition. For material that is 5600 ft deep (its at the bottom of the cavern) and heavy that isn't really an issue. It isn't going anywhere. Please explain how heavy dirt 5000 feet down is going to float to the surface. Last Edited by Poriwoggu on 08/15/2012 11:52 AM Poriwoggu |

As scientists try to learn what caused a massive sinkhole in Louisiana’s swamp community, Bayou Corne, the company with an abandoned salt mine near the site is about to start drilling a relief well to ease pressure underground and locals want to be notified when that drilling is to commence in the area where seismic signals are being recorded and only 1500 feet from a butane filled well. - [link to www.examiner.com] |
