BTW, discussing bladed weapons, keep the tomohawk high on the list. It's a great close quarters defensive tool.

The best weapon of course is a quick, well informed mind.

But in a true shtf scenario you'll want 3 weapons. A hand gun, a scatter gun, and a ling range rifle. These three would be ideal for a number of reasons.

The gat for lightweight personal protection that you can wear all the time. Doesn't matter what caliber. Novices debate caliber. A true marksman can accomplish any shooting task with a ,22.

A shotgun for home protection and hunting birds and small game. Absolutely essential. Plus the little lady can be effective with it since in her panic she won't have to think to aim.

A rifle for bigger game further out. I prefer a 7mm due to its flat trajectory at a distance. Less calculation if you have a target thats a quarter mile away. Just stock ammo cause it's not as popular as other rounds.

I also like the .22 LR with a quality scope. Ammo is cheap. It is almost as quiet as an air rifle. The kids can even handle it. And it'll put a serious hurting on a small deer with an accurate shot. It's light weight and can be totally silenced with a 20oz plastic bottle. That way you dont disturb your neighbors when you're practicing.

In addition you may want a crossbow. A machette (redneck sword). And a pair of night vision goggles. Good luck.

A baseball bat would be a better choice than a knife. Although you can't hide it very well.

A defensive weapon? I don't think it would be a weapon as it would be something else. After all, the meeting of an adversary changes on open ground and when it does change so will the need of your weapon.

Machete is also quiet, and can be hidden comfortably down your back or leg. High-powered air rifle is also a good option.

Screw the gun laws! The crooks that passed that shit want you docile and compliant so they can abuse you and do what they want and you can't say a fucking thing about it.

Try my home remedy for the weaponless blues. One garden type squirt bottle set to long spray. Top up wih Hydrochloric acid (pool shop) and fire at the enemy. One tiny drop in the eye and it's game over. If you're storing it make sure not to pump any through the trigger system beforehand.

Low budget here. Got a Marlin .22 semi auto with a scope, and an 18 round tube magazine.
A single shot .410 shotgun
and a Cold Steel 2 Handed Machete with a katana blade, professionally sharpened.

I might also mention, I am not so much interested in a need for self defense, as I am being able to drop squirrel, and rabbit and such.

Of course,this choice only applies to free people. The rest of you serfs might as well hide in your basements.
