Re: BREAKING: Dam Failure Imminent due to Isaac Flooding
So, are there any reports about the hurricane stirring up the oil/toxic dispersants in the Gulf? Or about the sinkhole?

My best friend lives near Lake Maurepas & hasn't had any water in his house until this morning at around 6AM when it started to creep under the door... I spoke with him about an hour & a half ago & they had 4 inches in the lower level and rising fast.

Thanks. His little boy's bedroom ceiling upstairs just collapsed from an until-now-unknown leak... so they're trying to save everything they can & are moving asap.

Re: BREAKING: Dam Failure Imminent due to Isaac Flooding
I was just saying to my wife, watch this storm drop rain up the Mississippi valley. Causing flood concerns for days and it all ends up back near NOLA.

Only blessing is the lack of rain in the mid states will help absorb the initial rain fall.
 Quoting: --Voltaic--

I have heard that if ground is too dry/hard, then the water runs right over it and doesn't soak in or get absorbed.
 Quoting: David Fap

Yes...true. i live in Arizona and that is precisely what happens. We always hope for a light, soaking rain before a hard monsoon so the ground can absorb more. But if not..the torrential rain just sends rivers right over the top in flash floods.

In fact there have been reports from farmers in drought areas that the soil is so dry and cracked that a big downpour would only wash over the top and not soak in. Sad situation.

The whole country is in a sad situation. I wish more people would just take time to get on their knees in earnest prayer....and have a heart to reach out and help the ones who need and can't help themselves.

Could make more difference than anything.u2efine

I lived on a farm years ago for a few months, during a drought, and heavy winter winds swept across the area (N. Dakota). All you heard on the farm report was how bad the farming was going to be because all the good topsoil was being blown off due to no moisture to secure it - no snow that year, not a drop until early May. They were all depressed about it. The topsoil contains all the mulch/nutrients from last year's harvest that helps the new crop grow.

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. – Residents living along the Tangipahoa River were given 90 minutes to evacuate after a potential levee break at Lake Tangipahoa was expected to allow a torrent of water south.

A mandatory evacuation was been called for areas along the Tangipahoa River from Kentwood through Robert, an area that would affect between 50,000 and 60,000 people.

Tangipahoa Parish President Gordon Burgess said residents have about 90 minutes as of 10:10 a.m. before the water would reach Kentwood.

This post if for all the disinfo ops on this forum who were posting before the approach of Issac.

You seek to teach us through your attacks not to trust our intuitions concerning storms. You mock those who warn others of approaching dangers. You were wrong about this storm.

I write this in honour of those who sought to warn others of the approaching dangers related to Issac, and to those who have been, and continue to be, in the path of the sufferation of Isaac.

MISSISSIPPI EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT HAS NOTIFIED GOHSEP AND TANGIPAHOA PARISH GOVERNMENT OF AN "IMMINENT FAILURE" OF THE DAM AT LAKE TANGIPAHOA AT PERCY QUINN STATE PARK. THIS FAILURE IS EXPECTED TO CAUSE ADDITIONAL FLOODING ALONG THE ALREADY SWOLLEN TANGIPAHOA RIVER. RESIDENTS ARE ADVISED TO STAY TUNED FOR ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS.

Conflicting reports say the dam is leaking, but it has not failed, yet. Residents along the Tangipahoa River in LA/MS have been given 90 minutes to evacuate.
Ironically, this dam had a Major rework due to begin NEXT WEEK, after the holiday, with water levels lowered 10 feet for construction.

BATON ROUGE -- Tangipahoa Parish officials have issued a mandatory evacuation for communities near the Tangipahoa River because Percy Quin Dam in Mississippi is expected to fail, officials said Thursday. The dam in Pike County is in imminent danger of failure due to flooding from Hurricane Isaac, officials said.
U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise announced that parish President Gordon Burgess called for immediate, mandatory evacuation on his Facebook page, saying the dam on Lake Tangipahoa is in "extreme danger" of failing.
The evacuation area runs from Kentwood to Robert along the river, he said.
State Police Superintendent Col. Mike Edmonson said Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness head Kevin Davis was on his way to Tangipahoa to work with Burgess on the evacuation. The National Guard has a helicopter hovering over the dam to monitor the situation, Edmonson said. As of 10:45 the structure was still holding, he said.

This is huge. Newscasters are getting panicky and trying to get some officials to call in to clarify. Tough to get 60000 people moved in 90 minutes with barely any notice. Telling people basically to get away from the river.
