Or about the sinkhole? “We must keep the people busy with political antagonisms." “We’ll therefore speed up the question of reform (of tarrifs within) the Democratic Party; and we’ll put the spotlight on the question of protection …(for) the Republican Party." “By dividing the electorate this way, we’ll be able to have them spend their energies at struggling amongst themselves, on questions that, for us, have no importance whatsoever." - United State Bankers magazine, 1892. |

Quoting: ScrumpTheTexan My best friend lives near Lake Maurepas & hasn't had any water in his house until this morning at around 6AM when it started to creep under the door... I spoke with him about an hour & a half ago & they had 4 inches in the lower level and rising fast. Sending love and light to your friend Thanks. His little boy's bedroom ceiling upstairs just collapsed from an until-now-unknown leak... so they're trying to save everything they can & are moving asap. Anonymous Coward User ID: 21201441 United States 08/30/2012 11:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was just saying to my wife, watch this storm drop rain up the Mississippi valley. Causing flood concerns for days and it all ends up back near NOLA. Quoting: --Voltaic-- Only blessing is the lack of rain in the mid states will help absorb the initial rain fall. I have heard that if ground is too dry/hard, then the water runs right over it and doesn't soak in or get absorbed. Yes...true. i live in Arizona and that is precisely what happens. We always hope for a light, soaking rain before a hard monsoon so the ground can absorb more. But if not..the torrential rain just sends rivers right over the top in flash floods. In fact there have been reports from farmers in drought areas that the soil is so dry and cracked that a big downpour would only wash over the top and not soak in. Sad situation. The whole country is in a sad situation. I wish more people would just take time to get on their knees in earnest prayer....and have a heart to reach out and help the ones who need and can't help themselves. Could make more difference than anything. I lived on a farm years ago for a few months, during a drought, and heavy winter winds swept across the area (N. Dakota). All you heard on the farm report was how bad the farming was going to be because all the good topsoil was being blown off due to no moisture to secure it - no snow that year, not a drop until early May. They were all depressed about it. The topsoil contains all the mulch/nutrients from last year's harvest that helps the new crop grow. |

PER THE WEATHER CHANNEL: 100Ft Breach in Dam BATON ROUGE -- Tangipahoa Parish officials have issued a mandatory evacuation for communities near the Tangipahoa River because Percy Quin Dam in Mississippi is expected to fail, officials said Thursday. The dam in Pike County is in imminent danger of failure due to flooding from Hurricane Isaac, officials said. U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise announced that parish President Gordon Burgess called for immediate, mandatory evacuation on his Facebook page, saying the dam on Lake Tangipahoa is in "extreme danger" of failing. The evacuation area runs from Kentwood to Robert along the river, he said. State Police Superintendent Col. Mike Edmonson said Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness head Kevin Davis was on his way to Tangipahoa to work with Burgess on the evacuation. The National Guard has a helicopter hovering over the dam to monitor the situation, Edmonson said. As of 10:45 the structure was still holding, he said.
